Sweet! More musicians!!!

I am also in a band. I have been playing bass for Reverend (fronted by David Wayne of Metal Church) for the past couple of years. The guitarist and I recently quit to form our own band doing more modern metal (Dave was/is still stuck in 1985!) Here are some pics:

Me in the studio last month doing a UFO cover (Lights Out) for an upcoming UFO tribute album.

Me live two years ago (when I had hair!)

The bass I'm playing live is my Carvin LB-75 5-string. The studio bass was a Charvel borrowed from a friend.

There are more pics at www.reverend.cx

Sweet! fellow car buffs/musicians. I've been playing guitar for 14 year. After tapping out the local music scene most of my time has gone to my cars. My Hamer is still my baby, I even still my old Ibanez. Snapped the neck at a crazy live show many moons ago. It's hard to be heard when your different in a dinky *** city.

RSfreak, i wouldn't mind hearing the newer stuff your doing.

Yeah, Dave is a great guy, his musical style just hasn't changed since the mid '80s. When Chris and I were recruited from our band, Faustus (progressive thrash), we wrote all new material for Reverend. We updated the music, but Dave was still singing in his old school metal style. There is nothing wrong with that I guess, after all, that is the style hes famous for. We just want to play music that younger fans will get into. Check out the Reverend site for any tour info with the new line up. www.reverend.cx

As far as Vanderhoof is concerned, lets just say he isn't very well liked amongst the Reverend crowd. And it isn't because he is a homosexual (ok, thats part of it! ). He is a total a$$hole and control freak! Last year Dave recorded new material with his other project which was to be called David Wayne's Metal Church. Well, Vanderhoof threatened to sue so Dave ended up releasing the album with the band named 'Wayne' and the album titled 'Metal Church'.

1. I gotta say, Im only 20 but theres nothin better than Waynes style of vocals. Honestly, the main reason noone sings like that anymore is cause NOONE CAN! Im sick of the no-talent 3 powerchord playin whining about mommy and daddy *cough-stained-cough* bands out there today.

2. This I did not know about Vanderhoof... hey what ever floats his boat lol. Same thing with Halford... I dont agree with his sexual prefrence, but I still respect him as a kick *** musician.

3. I did hear some about the law suits and all, never really got a clear story on that though...

I was checkin out the site BTW... you guys plan on puttin out a record any time soon? Gimme the heads up!

Well, since I'm no longer in the band, I don't know what they plan on doing as far as a new album. The only Reverend album I am on is 'A Gathering of Demons'. Reverend's drummer, Todd Stotz, is also playing in my new band, so I'm not cutting all ties with them 'cause who knows what may happen in the future. Its cool that someone as young as yourself (I'm 32 ) is into old school metal!

Like you said, Vanderhoof's sexual preference is no concern of mine and he is a killer guitarist.

With Star**** I play bass. We will be playing in the UK soon

If some of u guys like harder stuff like Machine Head, Pantera you should look up another band I play with, called Engine No.9 http://www.musikhuset.org/~engine9/ I play lead guitar there.

Me being 16, people tend to think im in the Linkin Park/Papa Roach/Slipknot/Korn crowd.

Excuse my French, but F.U.C.K. that.

Metal Church is awesome. The only CD i have is "The Dark", but it kicks some serious ***.

Whatever happened to that former James Hetfield guitar tech who played with Metal Church? I think he helped start it or something.

That would be John Marshall. He joined Metal Church after Kurt quit the band (actually Kurt still wrote all the songs, but didn't play live with the band.) John also filled in with Metallica on the ...And Justice tour when James broke his arm. I think Dave said John was still in the latest Metal Church line up.

-John

BTW, in my opinion, 'Blessing in Disguise' is the best Metal Church album. That was the one put out right after Dave left the band and featured Mike Howe on vocals. The funny thing is that Dave then recruited Mike's old band, Heretic, for Reverend!

Well, being in the Seattle music scene, I could help but know who Metal Church was. BTW, on the latest Reverend album, 'A Gathering of Demons' we did a Metal Church cover, sort of. The story goes like this; Dave left Metal Church right before their third album, 'Blessing in Disguise', was released and had lyrics for all of the songs written. Kurt ended up writing new lyrics when Dave left. Well, we thought it would be cool to do one of those songs with Dave's lyrics, kinda like 'this is what that album would have sounded like if Dave had still been in the band.' We did 'Fake Healer' but with Dave's lyrics it was called 'Legion'. It turned out killer! :hail:

I also play Guitar, and the biggest problem here in Hawaii is finding someone to play with.
Everyone plays either Hawaiian, or techno ****.

Another old metal-head here, now I'm an microprocessor design engineer. Was in several bands while going to school, lead singer or screamer (I never have any backup vocals).

Wrote a lot of original songs, and did covers, everything was heavy or speed metal. Was doing this in the early to mid 90s. Getting back into it again, working on my chops.

Influences: More recent SoulFly, Fear Factory, hey I like LinkinPark.
Historical: Testament, Metallica up to And Justice for All, Ozzy, Sepultura, Pantera, Joe Satriani, Megadeth, Slayer.

Fav 80s bands: Dokken (I know, don't know why, but I like 'em), RacerX, Van Halen, Winger (hey, maybe 'cause I hooked up with the hottest girl I've ever seen).

I still sometimes wake up wondering where my long hair went.

One other interesting note: 3rd gens were the most popular cars when going to rock concerts in the late 80s to mid 90s.

Later, Dave '91 GTA, '01 WS6 T/A

I've seen both of these bands live as well, Megadeth twice and Cinderella opening for AC/DC in 1988. I just recently threw out my 'Long Cold Winter' tour shirt as it no longer fit. I think Def Leppard is the best hard rock/metal band I have ever seen live (Hysteria tour). The best band I have EVER seen live is At the Gates! They were this Swedish thrash/death metal band who opened for Napalm Death in Seattle about four years ago. Greatest show ever! :hail:

Yeah, I've been to a lot of great concerts. Probably my favorite is seeing Soulfly at Ozzfest, also SatchMan aka Joe Satriani just rocks live. Seeing Metallica for And Justice for All was nice before they went mainstream. Only bands that I haven't seen on my list are RacerX (broke up before I ever heard of them, probably no one here has heard of them), and Linkin Park. Looks like I'll be going to Ozzfest again this year, its nice to see a lot of younger kids into the music again. For a while there, it was only us old folks, if you call 29 old.

And Dokken could hit those notes a long time ago (have a live CD), I've seen them recently 3 times over the last 5 years, but they still rock.

i also heard of At the Gates..........all i know is that they are a death metal band..............i cant get in any radio station that plays death metal by me, so there are a few bands that i havent heard yet

so far i have seen: Van Halen, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, Megadeth, Motley Crue, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Kid Rock , Dope, Cinderella, Slaughter, Dokken, Quiet Riot, Enuff Znuff, Warrant, Pantera, Morbid Angel, Zakk Wylde, Black Crowes with Jimmy Page, Soulfly, Nothingface, 2 Ozzfests, and more but i cant remember now..............

and i am going to go see Iced Earth in 2 weeks

oh yeah, Rob, as luck would have it i found a bass player

my old friend was talking to me and told me he wanted to jam

from what i remember he wasnt very good, but i hope that time has been good to him

RacerX is awesome. I love "Scarified"...Probably one of the coolest instrumentals.

At The Gates rocks, but you should check out

SOILWORK, Children of Bodom, and In Flames

Hey I like Dokken, but Queensryche is just as cool. Check out the first 3 CDs, especially the songs "Queen of the Reich" and "Walk in the Shadows"

It's funny, i like everything from John Lee Hooker to Children of Bodom(Finnish death prog metal). And im only 16 LOL.

Yeah, RacerX was a killer progressive metal band! Paul Gilbert and Bruce Boulette (spelling?) tore it up! Then Paul hooked up with Bass-G0D, Billy Sheehan, and formed Mr. Big who sucked in my opinion.

1991tealRSt-topGuy, you are one lucky SOB! Iced Earth RULES! 'Wolverine Blues' is a must have album for thrash fans! :hail:

MetKiss316,
I tried to list my top bands, but it didn't include everybody. I saw Queensryche a couple of times (have their earlier albums), there are a lot of other good to great bands that I have CDs/saw live. I really liked Skid Row, Sebastian Bach could really hit all those high notes live. Paul Gilbert and Mr. Big, I don't remember the name of the lead singer but he had one of the weakest voices I've ever heard. But Poison's Bret Michaels has got to be the worst singer/band I've ever seen live. Even Pantera, with the lead singer (his name escapes me at the moment) ranting and raving for about 30 minutes about why we all need to get stoned (he was whacked out of his mind), wasn't as painfull as Poison.

Talking about other stuff I like, I played the saxophone until college. I like quite a bit of classical, but my favorite is Opera. Yeah, I know, but I took some music writing classes at school, and the professor described my singing or screaming style as screaming opera. This was a song that was very Sepultura like in style, and she gave us an A+ for the composition. A very cool prof.

Later, Dave

I know Nevermore, very cool guys (I'm wearing a Nevermore shirt in that picture). I played for a Seattle thrash band called Faustus for several years. We opened for Nevermore a couple of times. Once on a bill with them and Flotsam & Jetsam. We opened for lots of national acts but the best show ever was opening for Dio! Warrel and Jim are the only original members from Sanctuary that formed Nevermore although one of their guitarists, Jeff Loomis was in Sanctuary right before they broke up. Sanctuary had two albums released; 'Refuge Denied' and 'Beyond the Mirror Black', both excellent but good luck finding them.

BTW, in that pic above of me in the studio, the guy sitting at the mixing board is Curran Murphy who was in Nevermore briefly and toured Europe and Brazil with them. He has just joined Annihilator and will be on their new album.

yeah Maiden rocks!!!!!

Brick is one town above Toms River

but we'd prolly practice in lakewood where my friend lives since he has a basement

tell ya what, lemme go over a couple of nights and see how he is (if he improved any)

if he's good, in a couple of week you can come jam with us

if not, at least you wont have wasted your time

he's into all the same stuff we are into

he kinda goes through phases though

like he had a death metal phase where he would only listen to Carcass and Sentenced

then he had a Prog phase where he would only listen to Dream Theatre and Eternity-X

Now he claims to be in a classic rock phase...Zeppelin, Sabbath and Cream

hey, atleast all those phases have cool music though
