Reinstalling headlight ****
I'm helping a friend of mine with his Camaro and we can't get the shaft of the headlight **** to catch when we put it back in. Is there some kind of trick to this? It slides in fine, but it won't catch. It just pulls right back out.

Try pushing the button on the top of the switch to see if you can free up the catch. Otherwise it may have broke. You did push in the button to release it when you took it out didn't you? (This may not apply if you are dealing with a '90-'92 dash, but definately does on '89 and earlier dashes).

Yeah, I pushed the button to get it out. It came out pretty easy. I've had this problem with other Camaros I've had in the past. Putting it back in always seems to give me trouble. I was just hoping somebody might know of some kind of trick to getting it to catch. It goes in all the way, it just won't catch.

This same thing was broke on my car for 4 years, I thought I needed a whole new headllight switch. I even went to the junkyard and pulled a new switch (which was a PITA BTW), just to find out that the plastic collar was broke. Took 3 mins. to fix. LOL
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I finally figured it out this morning once we pulled the whole switch out. The switch was bent downwards a little. Once I bent the switch into a more straight position, the **** finally caught and worked fine. It would go in while it was bent, it just wouldn't catch. Weird.
