Functional SS hood on 69 RS with LS1... thirdgen possibilties with this design???
Anyone see this car in PHR recently? Its the Year One test car. They actually made a functional box for the SS hood to feed the LS1 powerplant. I personally thought this idea on a thirdgen MAF car would be too much plumbing for the MAf to work properly. If you look closely I believe the MAf on this car is on the end of the black pipe.
This leads me to believe that its possible to build a box for my thirdgen. Im concerned about height though. I know the LS1 motor sits lower. I happen to have a SuperRam which I believe is lower that a TPI setup.
Im planning to try and mock up a cardboard model following the design of this one on the 69' and see if its feasable. Has anyone actaully spent the time to try and build a box? Ive seen alot of chat about it but know solid answers.

I think if you are not running A/C it would not be too much trouble. The MAF should be no sweat, ever looked at a T/A setup? This has me thinking....

Yeah, I recently polished my SuperRam too. If it works, Ill be looking to make a polished aluminum version... gotta bave some shine. I dont like the plumbing they used in that picture though. Looks like it has heat wrap on it which I see as usefull but its ugly .

Well, the heat wrap brings up a good question though. How effective will that ram air/cold air induction be if it heats up before it gets into the motor? How much will it heat up? I suspect that a simple test with a manifold air temp sensor can determine that. But... since the Camaro has a setup that's already very easy to turn into a ram air scheme, other than for visual enhancement, I doubt you'd realize much benefit from this type of ram air induction.

Looking at those pics, I would think the pipe never heats up that much to effect the air. Im sure it goes up a few degrees over having it fresh off the hood and right into the TB.
More than anything, Id just like my hood to be functional. I guess it sort of is now just by allowing fresh air in to poor over the motor but actually hooking it up would be sweet.
