Neat Trick!!

I had a delema yesterday, I needed to take my front wheel off and i have those safety lug nuts that take a "key" to take off. Well i lost the key of course so i couldnt get the lug off. After trying vice grips and screwdrivers i was ready to give up then my dad came home and saved the day!! He laughed at me and said weld a nut on to the lugnut then use a socket to take it off. I felt really stupid and said thats what i was going to do next. so i did it and the lug nut came right off.

I posted this just incase anyone had the same problem, this would also work if you had a striped lug nut!!

actually i have that problem..and all i did was poudn a socket onto the lug...one that was large enough to be fit on...but small enough to give enough friction to break the lug...

thats what i did..and i saved a socket too..cuz then u just have to pound out the lug...

The worst part is that they are in a random order so they are a PITA to take off.........

It's just that people would steal the lug nuts since they are chrome.........

so i got tired kicking people's @ss cause they decide to put them on thier car and think i won't notice..........so i just lock them all on their....

Heh hey man, whatever it takes.

I'd much rather have that then have the stuff stolen.

I had my tool kit stolen at a car show. Guess what was in it. So all my lugs are locking Gorilla lug nots. And darn it if I can't find teh code number for the darn things. I was thinking about tryint that deepwell socket with all teh fingers in it to see if it would work. I can't remember the name Gator grip or something stupid like that. Well its prob junk, but no one said I can't try it and return it if it doesn't work. Total gimmic, but it might get one off so I can send it to Gorilla and get a new socket.

I have beat a socket on there to get the locking lug nuts off. It works.

FLYNLOW92rs, Now they will just steal the whole car and use this new info to take off your rims in their shop with a welder and a socket.

The funny thing about wheel locks is any thief can get them off without the key, they use the "gator grip" have you seen that stupid little tool that has all the pins inside and will "conform" to just about anything, they use them all the time around here..... thank *** my car sits inside or there would be some very very dead people in my neighborhood

MAC or Snap-on also make a socket designed for that reason. It's just a impact socket with reverse threads inside. Thats how I got mine off.

i got a 2 sockets that can brake those nice locks right off. and they have the threads in them, it looks like a sallow impact socket with threads, all u do is pound the damn thing on with a hammer and use either a braker bar or a socket wreanch.

I stripped my key out in the middle of BumF---, NJ, with a flat tire. After trying to call AAA and "We're very busy, but we'll try to make it out there in 3 hours" and walking back to the car, I had an idea. I super-tightened the other 4 lugnuts. Then I used a large pair of channel locks (which I forgot to take out of the car the day before) on the wheel lock. The lock came right off. I took all the stress of of it, which is why it became loose.

Then I hurled that thing far into the woods! The whole time I was bitchin' about how I was going to get my money back, you shoulda seen my friend's eyes when I threw that thing as far as I could. "What happened about getting a refund?" "Throwing it felt much better."

I can't say this with 100% certainty, but i worked at a tire center and I've seen the gator grip... and i can't imagine that it'd be capable of removing a locking lug. It of course can't grip the outside of the lug and i don't believe that the teeth are small enough to get into the space where the key goes in (very technical terms flying around here!). We didn't have any of those reverse threaded sockets to remove them, so we just told people to go somewhere to have them torched off. Tom had a good idea with tightening the other 4 lugs though. that'd definately help reduce the stress on the locking lug.

flathead and a hammer on one of the groves worked fine for me, just had to break it lose and turn it by hand, but then again i dont torque the locknut extremely tight
