anyone got any tricks for getting the oil pan off in the car , im really trying to avoid pulling the engine as there is a ton of stuff i have to pull to get the engine out
Yeah, the pickup tube on my oil pump wiggled loose and sucks down on the bottom of the pan. I wasn't real confident with it to begin with. It was running in my driveway and the pressure just tanked. I cut it off like a split second later and knew exactly what the problem was. Took dizzy cap off unbolted engine and trans mounts and lifted the engine just enough to get the pan off. Went back together in reverse order. Highly recommend the felpro 1 piece gasket. It comes with plastic retainers to help hold it in place so you can use both hands to get pan on. Was a pain cause I had just set the engine in the car the day before. Glad it happens at idle in driveway instead of running down the road though.
thanks guys i thought it was possible but just nice to verify it does come out by lifting the engine . i just put my car together and the oil pan leaks a tiny bit was praying i wouldnt have to tear it all down and pull the engine
You can also potentially hold the engine up with a hoist, and remove the k-member from the bottom, or at least just lower it some. After looking at the engine in the first pic I don't know how much lifting or space you could get, but this would be an alternative if you're afraid of twisting or bending something.
