Really I can see why you don't agree, I think I am going to go with my other option and just getting where the emblems would be filled in because I hate when other camaro pre judge the RS. My camaro isn't the V6 model like everyone thinks it is.

Well towards the end of the winter I want to put this thing in the shop for a bigger motor, the 305 is still in great shape the car only has 70k miles Also I can get the tpi system off of my boys camaro that he sold after taking the tpi system off. The point of not buying a Z28 is because every Z28 in my area is beat on. I bought this RS from like a 45 year old lady I couldn't ever see her ever racing it. Plus it's rare to find Z28's in my area that don't have a quarter of a million miles on them. I've had 2 other f-bodies and they were fast but wouldn't it be better to get one built the way you like it. 86 Trans-am (First year of tpi) and an 89 Formula 350.

I agree it will always be an RS. Also I wanted to add that I beat an I-Roc with my 92 Cougar LS V6, so it's not also what you got it's the condition that your car is in also. The I-Roc was a 305 tpi 5 speed and my cougar was a 3.8 liter v6 non supercharged with K&N and a less restricted exhaust. What I am getting to is the I-roc probaly had alot of miles and my cougar only had 45-50k when I raced him. Miles mean alot on the cars engine and if I want to buy a z28 I don't want lots of miles.

What about all of the people who make iroc clones? I think they should have just found an iroc! The dealer does still have them and the prices are not that bad for them. The places above are all good refferences! I replaced everything when i got my car re-painted. I still think you should leave the emblems alone and stick with working on your motor. This way when some meat head in a Mustang or 4th gen pulls up next to you and you whoop the **** out of them, it will give that "sleeper" affect. It is your car though, so good luck with it!

You can get the emblems from either Classic Industries at www.classicindustries.com or Next Generation by Year One at www.nextgeneration.com.
As far as the higher morality of swapping emblems, it would clearly be wrong to just swap the emblems (especially on a V-6 car). But, there's not really anything on a Z-28 or IROC that you can't either swap in or buy as-good-or-better aftermarket equipment. For instance, if you had a full Hotchkis suspension, with aftermarket brakes, high-ratio steering, and the like (assuming you have at least a TPI 305 or better), would that really be so wrong? If the car is truly IROC or Z-28 equiped performance wise, then who cares if the only non-Z thing is the vin? It would certainly be O.K. to have a pro-street car (where nothing is stock but the body) with IROC or Z-28 emblems. So I say "Knock Youself Out." Just be true to the heritage of the Camaro and don't defame the Z-28 and IROC nameplates. Of course, my opinion is worth about as much as everyone else's when it comes to YOUR car.

And I wasn't bashing the 305TPI.
I was just saying that people may assume its a 305 or 350 TPI, and if they beat him they'll be awfully proud and they'll go around bragging the beat a "Z28" when it wasn't a Z28.

Whats with the ""?
He simply gave his opinion. He wasnt an ******* about it. Other people in this thread gave there opinion too........

The engine dosent even matter. You could put a 400 HP 350 TPI in a RS and it will not be a z28.
Just saying though......Nothing wrong with a RS, or building up a RS.

hate to **** you folks off even more, but i'm making a Z28 REPLICA out of my currently V6 RS
i have a 350 TPI sitting in the garage waiting to go, i have the wing, i have the hood, i have the blisters
i pretty much have everything (i think i still need a wonderbar) to make a decent replica
i see replicas of vintage camaros (SS, Z28, RS) all the time at car shows
as long as its done in the correct context (ie, not putting Z28 on a V6 sport coupe) i dont see why not,
i dont really agree with what this dudes doing (305 TBI, RS body) but hey, whatever tickles your pickle

Yeah, I can see it being kinda okay if you make it perform like a Z28. But still not somethng I would do. It would probably be easier and cheaper to buy a Z28 than convert an RS to a Z28. But go for it. As long as you don't try and sell it as a Z28

easier hell yeah!
cheaper not really
i couldnt sell this car for peanuts if i tried
it almost has 200,000 miles on the original V6
its got new paint though, thats the only good side
the interior needs works
once i get the engine built, it'll have some brand new (well rebuilt) power
i kinda figure i'll give this car the overhaul it needs and make it perform at the same time

Hey I told them I was getting tpi and a bigger motor (still not sure 350, 355, or 383 stroker) mine would perform better then a Z28 and I would never sell it as a Z28. I already got a 350 turbo trans rebulit and put in my car, after the motor I just got to get a nice posi rear.

i don't see why those who want to do something like this or even those who think it's wrong make such a big deal out of it....
no matter what you do the car is what it is...
if i had any idea i would have done what i have i would have bought a 2.8 berlinetta...........well maybe not, but thought has crossed my mind. it's extremely cheaper.
but, even if i had done such a thing i would still sell it as a 2.8 berlinetta..........just custom kandy red and everything else!
do whatever makes you happy and quit making such a big deal out of it. if you can look at in your driveway and be happy that's all that matters.
although, you had better hope that whatever engine you put in there can beat even the slowest stock z28 before you ever think of putting the badges on otherwise it's just wrong...

what if we dont know wtf the car really is?
an LG4 was available in the SC, Z28 and IROC for 1987
hmmm what do i want? SC Z28 or an IROC?
although there are telltale signs of an IROC
particularly the wonderbar and the 1/2" suspension difference
Hey- i never said I was gonna have a V6 Z28 did i?
nope, i said i was going to "restore" the car as a replica of a Z28 all in the correct contexts..........except it will eventually wind up with a T56
point being is- if somebody is going to make a replica and go 100% to factory specs, then i see no problem with that whatsoever, cuz ya know what? 75% of the 67-69 SS, Z28's etc i see at car show are replicas
and whats worse is that they have the wrong engines
i saw a 69 Z28 with a 307
i saw another one with a 350
and another with a 327.................................

OK since this is never gonna get back on topic...
Here's my problem with the "clone" issue. If I stop you on the street and see your Z28, or IROC, or whatever badges and ask you if it's a real Z28, you have to choices. 1) you can lie. 2) you can admit it's not a real Z28, and then what's the point anyway. I just think it's kinda shady. One guy out there built a first gen Penske #6 Trans-AM z28 "clone". He liked it so he built it. But at shows, it's clearly stated as a "replica/clone". It's like paying homage. By changing the badges of a thirdgen and driving it everyday, it's just kinda sneaky.
As far as it's performance, it doesn't matter. Making an RS perform like a Z is great, but it's still an RS. I have an Iroc. If I make it run the 1/4 in 12 seconds, it's certainly not stock...does that mean now it's something other than an Iroc?
Any f-body is cool, be proud of it. Make it perform the way you want. Make it look like whatever you want. Be proud of having an RS that kicks a$$.
I'm not picking on 91camaroRSV8, I'm just using the rs/z28 thing as an example.... Iroc/SC/RS......TA/GTA same thing.....

Thankyou Abubaca I just want to make it a kick *** f-body, I had other plans instead of emblems. I was thinking about getting where the emblems are filled in and then after I smoke someone in a race make them guess what kind of Camaro do they think it is and then laugh at them when I tell them they got smoked by a Rally Sport. (This is of course after the motor change) It's been a very interesting conversation and its good i got to hear other peoples opinions.

heh, some of you people act like some of us are hacking up 1969 Zl-1 corvettes (only 2 produced)
get over it really................
i see how this is can be "*****" in some peoples minds
(like adding V-tec emblem to a honda)
but, i am adding the hood
i am adding the aerowing
i have a 350 sitting in my garage
and i have a TPI comming to me in 3 weeks
hmmmmm, guess i should stay stock and leave everything alone and leave the weak little V6 in there huh?
ummmmm, i have every intention of making a dead-on Z28 CLONE and letting people know its a clone
some of you act like you own the holy grail of cars, these are friggin 3rd gen f-bodies for christ sakes!
my logic:
i can sell my car as it is for about $700
(car is in great shape, but has a 3.1 with nearly 200,000 miles)
or i can put in my NEW motor, a newer transmission, and a new rearend, and have a newer more reliable car, and not have to deal with the hassles of finding a car, selling a car, etc..........
now i feel like i am wasting my time trying to explain myself........

My point is that a Z28 will cost more then a equal RS. That is a obvious point. The RS is a cheaper car So going by your logic since I want a Firehawk I should purchase all the components and install them on REGULAR T/A and have Firehawk badges all over? Sorry I don'y have RPO WU6 so it is not a hawk. A Hawk will cost more money but is it the real deal? Yes! You are missing a certain RPO you need. This is not a flame to the RS owners out there but your car is a lower model then a Z28. Face it and stop trying to pass it off as something it is not! That is like me saying my regular T/A is a Hawk. It is not. Even though I don't consider it a "regular" T/A it is not a Hawk. As much as I wish it was, and I purchased a Hawk I know it's a T/A. I want a Hawk so when my loan is paid off I will go out and spent the cash on the real deal. I have no respect for people like you who try and pass something off that it is not! You are ignorant and have a huge ego to support if you need to make it a higher model THEN IT REALLY IS!!! Did I elaborate enough for you? Half rate car!!! Just like my T/A is half rate to a Hawk.

I think I am going to go with my other option and just getting where the emblems would be filled in because I hate when other camaro pre judge the RS.
For me, I like my RS, and I am proud of it....I'd rather have it than a similar Z28, and when I am done with it, I'll be glad that people think that it's "just an RS"

Car: 1991 Corvette Coupe
Engine: L98
Transmission: 700R4/4L60 same trans different name
passing it off as something that it is truly not??
what about all the guys i see at car shows with vintage camaros who upgrade them to higher model specs and change them to the respective model
i'm sure though, if they were to sell there cars, they would let the owner know it is not a true SS, but say base 1969 camaro with a 396 transplant
i'm not going to try to sell the car as a Z28....................
i want the emblem to reflect what i have under the hood, thats really about it
i'm not egotistical in any way
i'm very against putting emblems on cars in a incorrect context way..........say putting GT emblems on a 4 cyl mustang
thats just gay
i dont understand why this strikes so many people as the 10th sin
ummmm like i said, i am creating a replica
