What's up with these Knightrider conversion kits????

There are three of them on Ebay. One of those is a 92 and it even has the black wheel covers. Is this conversion making a comeback?

That 92 on there has the worse kITT front end I have ever seen made it has so huge gaps all the way around and the scanner does not even line up right and that car is a V6 so sad. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2400025553 and this other one has a great front nose but the fog lights seam to be missing lol http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...em=1876744756. I dunno man I see them on ebay about onces a month there is at least one on here, I would say its the guys that grew up watching knight rider and finaly have money and are old enough to build these cars and then when they are down building them and get tired of it I guess they say oh kewl I can sell it on ebay now and buy something else ( seams kinda dumb to me to build your dream car then sell it) just my thoughts. EDIT and I just found this one and I know this guy is on the boards he lives in so cal and wanted to sell the car to me for 2,000 but its a TBI engine with an auto tranny so I did not want it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2400082460 he wanted to sell me that 90 firebird next to it as well but its a hard top and I don't want a hard top I want some T's!

Hadn't seen hardly any for sale in a while. All of a sudden, there's 3 for sale. That's why I asked.

Its not fun buying one. Part of the fun is building it yourself and anticipating the arrival of parts. All those cars have a nose made popular by Rob Louisell...who in the KR replica community is known as the father of conversions. His nose is an interpretation of the original nose, it wasn't molded from an original, he sculpted it himself. He later sold his molds to Eric Nagy who once ran the now defunct site knighton-line.com STAY AWAY FROM HIM!!!! If you ever order anything from him you will not get your product. Also Mike from bkauto.net sells that nose, as does Bill from billscustomconversions.com and Eric Shave from wildcopper.net (who i'd stay away from as well). Although those noses don't nearly stick out as far as Mark's nose from markscustomkits.com His nose sticks out way further it is also his interpretation, he has an original mold avalaible but he only uses that for his complete turnkey cars. bkauto.net sells one molded from an original as well. Then there is Don Colie who is known to have the best most accurate parts for the moment and he runs the site adiautotech.com Very nice parts his nose is also his interpretation but it is a lot truer to the show and has an excellent fit from what I've heard, follows the lines of the car very well...and is a very good business man, honest and always willing to work with you. I've been researching this whole replica thing for a few years now and have always been a fan who can spot the details and differences pretty easily.

The only thing I like about those "KITT conversion" are the dash kits with the TV's.

I really could'nt picture driving around thinking I was "Michael Knight".

Hmmm....I'm thinking about a new topic!

First season no it was not to far out but after that they changed from a stock nose that just had a little work to it to a full custom fiberglass nose like those cars. If you want to watch the first season it just started on the 13th being aired on scifi. Here is a pic of the first season replica( but the very very first car they had for the show had an even shorter nose than this.

The first pick 92Transam showed is the 1 and 2nd season nose. It had the blackouts where the turn signals were. Later in the 3 and 4th season that was just made into a solid piece. The nose in the pilot episode in a few scenes did look more like just a modiffied stock nose. The hood extended all the way to the end of the nose where the scanner was then located. However that first nose you used was used for the majority of the first pilot episode. That second nose is the design like the ones that are being auctioned on ebay. Originally sculpted by Rob Louisell like I previously stated. That third long nose you showed is Mark's nose from marks custom kits (I hate how long that is). And this following nose is the one made by Done Colie of adiautotech.com

It occurs to me that if I were going to build a replica, I would want the correct looking piece, not a gaudy custom "interpretation" of a gaudy custom nose. One wouldn't use just any black wheels on one, right?

Thing is that only until about maybe a year ago no one except Mark from markscustomkits.com had a mold of an original nose. It is hard to come by an orignal nose since there are only a couple certefied screen cars left....most were destroyed. There is a few people that have a mold from an orignal now. It comes down to ethics some peole aren't too pleased that there are some making noses from an orignal mold because at once it was rare to have such a thing. People seem to be proud that they sulpted their own products. To have some people just making molds seems not right to some conversion companies. There is a guy on ebay selling noses made from an orignal mold named Rober Yancey he regularly has noses posted on ebay. Some people in the KR commmunity feel he is wrong for doing it. I believe Sharon (RAIF) recently got one of those noses. I don't think its a bad idea...afterall there KR conversions although more abundant now are still rare and not to eveyrone's tastes. Mark only sells that nose in a complete turnkey because he felt that the use of an orignal nose in some hackjob conversion would not be fair to use....his opinion not mine. Nevertheless even the a nose molded from an orignal is not a perfect fit. It was a prop afterall and only had to look good on camera. Some people have complained about the fit of it. The most accurate looking nose on the market right now with the best fit is that of Don Colie at adiautotech.com although his nose is also the most expensive I believe. So have to make sacrafices on some things. The other noses especially the Rob Louisell nose is very popular because it still gives you the look and its sold by the most conversion companies and the cheapes I believe. Most people won't be able to tell the difference anyways if they weren't a diehard KR fan.

How much do you want for the seats and do you have some pics of them? I might be interested in them, but I won't have the money for them for about a week.

Yes, Shannon got one of Robert's noses recently...turns out he lives about 5 miles from us. Its going on her 82 TA, which isn't going to be a KITT replica...it'll be a full custom, with everything else of our own design. The nose itself will probably be reworked to better suit her vision of the car. We're hoping to install it this weekend, and see how much work its going to require to fit it to the car. For our purposes, we just couldn't see spending $1000+ on a Don Collie nose.

Hawks has some NICE seat covers available for these seats, in either original style fabric or a leatherlike vinyl.

My purchase of Robert Yancey's nose was strictly because he was so close. I could look at it and see how much work would be involved. If there is a problem he is right here. Whether it came from an original mold or not is of no consequence. It was a good price and is a good quailty fiberglass piece. I will let you know about the fit. He said it was going to be a bit of work, but I like his honesty.

Heck when i got my SunCoast hood I drove down to FL from GA hoodless & picked it up to be sure it was good quality...

How dod you know it was a Yancey nose, from the pics being the ebay ones? I will get my own up soon. I hope the KITT guys don't hate me too much!

I have learned alot about the KITT conversions in my own quest to find restoration parts for my car. I have found that No one company sells completely acurate parts. In fact some of them are horrid copies. I have found that the best cosmetic choices come from www.markscustomkits.com. Although he charges to much, and his electronics package doesn't do alot of things that other companies packages do. Being a fan of the show I decided that if I ever won the lottery and just had a retarded amount fo money I might want one sitting in my garage.

Yeah Shannon I could tell by the ebay pics. I like the orignal Yancy nose, just that some people at knightregistries have a problem with him, I don't mind though. Mark has excellent parts but his nose is the worst in looks out there. My opinion but a lot of people in the KR community will agree. As for him having the best cosmetic anything it would have to be his 3rd 4th season dash and elec packages....since Eric Nagy is pretty much out of the business I think Mark's dash is mor accurate. However hands down Don Colie has the best 1st 2nd season dash and electronics. There is virtually no difference from the show car. Lets also not forget that the show car is just that made to look good on TV. Don Colie from adiautotech.com has excellent products that look good in person and not just in pictures, ask anyone over at knightregistries.com. Mark is an excellent business man and very attentive to his customers but his products like his nose and two tv dash do lack what adiautotech products have. Both are of the hightest quality out there though, that is for sure.

The nose made by Done Colie of adiautotech.com is the most acurate and highest quality nose. That's one thing I hated about the Markscustomkits nose. They were to long. But I do think he has the most accurate dash and steering wheel.

I saw the "Kitt" car at "Klassics" auto museum in Daytona, but the particular car they had on display (behind the velvet ropes) must have been a stunt driver's car, it wasn't all that great and had a stained interior with ciggarette burn holes in it. We got a kick out of that . They had a board showing various shots from the show's production, and they had tube frame cars with a lexan 'bird body they would use for the jump scenes, and cars used for the up close scenes, etc. Just like on the Dukes of Hazzard, they had different cars for different things.
