OK, my dad has a buddy who thinks he has one of the fibergalss hoods they used on one of his IROC series race cars. The ones with the functional loovers. My questions is since these are supposed to resemble the factory hood, do you think it would fit our cars without issues? Also, if it does fit, does anybody have any idea how much it would be worth? I'm not sure if I'm even going to get this hood but any input would be helpful. Thanks in advance guys.

don't think it is sold anywhere or tons of people here would have 'em. probably have to get it cut out....wouldn't be hard for a metal shop

im bringing this tread back from the dead as i want to get ppl talking and i want to make my hood functional

.... how can i take care of the rain issue. My louvers will work backwards from the raceing ones but thats cool.

Could you fab up some kind of linkage to all of them and attach it to the throttle lever. Then they would open with the throttle.

With the throttle? Maybe with a carb/TBI setup that'd work..

As for rain, I was thinking of just getting some kind of solenoid or something like a door lock motor that when a button was pressed, a cover could be moved to cover the openings on the hood. It could be done to look REALLY nice and work really well too.

I have taken it upon myself to do this mod to my hood. the project begins.


Plan:

I am going to get some sheetmetal andcut it out in the shape of the louvers, kinda like an outline or whatever, then cut out vents just like the vents on the one above. Once that is taken care of I will cut out the old louver section on the hood and weld the new sheetmetal vents on fromt he underside then w/ a little body filler on the upper side fill in the edges & sand so it looks nice and smooth.

Sound like a plan stan?

As for the rain issue, who cares! I wash my motor every time I go to the car wash & where I live rain comes far and between. So water on the motor for me is not an issue like other people have.

What do you guys think? Se any issues? I gotta get started on this A.S.A.P.

If you could figure out how to do it, you should have it opened by engine vaccum like the early 2ndgen Trans Am shaker hoods... they had a flap on the back that was opened when you nailed the throttle.

but what would the point of that be on a tpi car?

I would leave them open the whole time, isn't that the point of vents? release hot air from the engine bay???

Yea it is. Actucally couldn't we have Hawks fabricate one if enough people wanted them? Kind of like the notch backs? I think only like 20 people needed to pre order. Just a thought.

First off, I've had that idea before, but never the inclination to do it. Props to you 5siz.

Gotta keep 'em open all the time. The cowls back in the 60's drew air in from the bottom of the windshield/low pressure area. Across the front of the hood, there's no low pressure. (not enough anyway).

holy sh1* i just thought of what i can do!!!!!! I can make have 2 sweet projects done in one!!!!!!!

heres the plan:

remove my louvers cut out the hole in the hood (leaveing the maounting holes there still. then cut slots or holes in my plasic louvers and reintall them...now i got open vents...now to get rid of the rain issuse

ok so under the hood i build some sort of hood liner out of thin alum of stanless steel (that i can even polish)and ither have a hatch that i open manually or a slidding door (manal) that just uncovers the hole in the hood that way on nice days i leave it open and if its poring out i can close it and the water that comes in the hole in the hood just runs down the hood liner and drains off to the side or infront of the engine. hows that??????
