How do you replace the shifter ball on an 85 IROC?

Just like the topic says...I need to know how to replace the shifter ball on my 85 IROC. I did a search but found little. I read some vague descriptions about a c-clip. Can anyone shed some more light on this for me?

Replies are always appreciated!

To get to the c clip you need to take off the shifter button. It slides right up towards the roof. Keep an eye out for the clip that the button uses to keep itself held in place. After you have that outta the way then you will see the c clip down in the recessed area of the shifter ball.

pull the shift button out of the shifter by just pulling up on it. then you should be able to look down onto the shift lever and the only thing that keeps that plastic ball on is a little c-clip just smaller than a dime. get 2 icepicks or 2 small screwdrivers and push on both ends of the C to pop it off. then the whole ball should just slide right up and off of it.
