Pictures of my car... gotta start somewhere!

hey guys, i finally got my car back today from the shop. turns out i got 100.00$ knocked off the price. they had another 84' camaro down there that needed some tail lights, one lense had a small crack in it, so i made a deal with the guy, and he gave me the ones that were in it, and knocked off 100.00$ off the total. the only thing is, i dont have the grib style tail lights anymore. o well, ill get some more. anyways, the 1st pic is of the car the day i bought it for 1,500.00$, the next 4 are from today. im hoping to have it painted black sometime soon, still have to save up some more $ though. let me know what you think.

yeah i thought about doing that, but the "little" 305 thats in it now is a good running motor, not fast by ANY means, but it does run good. so thats not something i really need right now. as long as its runs, thats good for now. but yeah, a 350 will be in the works right after i get everything else i need. i still have to get lowering springs, paint, carpet, dash pad, bowtie style grille, the grid style tail lights, clear turn signals, and new parking lamp lenses for the front, and.... did i mention paint? lol

Id say at least paint it a primer black for now. The different colors look horrible. But let us know man when you finish.

Nice Project. What exactly did the shop do? I'm assuming they fixed the dings and primed it--- but why did they use 2 different colors of primer?

Also you mentioned that you put the GFX back on. You are going to take them back off to paint it, right?

It should be sharp in paint with the new wheels. Keep us updated.

ive just kinda been doing this project as the $ comes along, im a senior in high school and its wrestling season right now, and i dont work during season. as for the body work, you can look at the 1st pic and see the car had a pretty straight body. the shop just fixed small drings here and there. also, the car has been wrecked in the front at sometime, and whoever put it back together just threw everything on, basically the whole front end didnt line up, and the hood didnt shut. so they lined up the front bumper cover, fenders, and hood. like i said im working on it as the money comes... i had the front fenders done about a month ago by a diff. shop, so thats why their the color they are. the hood is just the color it came. and it will prolly be about a month b4 i can get it painted, so i just put the GFX's on so they wouldnt get scuffed laying around the garage, but yeah, ill take them back off when the paint time comes. thanks for all the post guys!

A flat/satin black would be cool. Like a classic hot rod. I vote the sleeper look. But you have a good start. Better than I do right now, lol.

yeah black primer would have been kool, i hate the 2 different color look. but its already done now, so theres no use in having it put in black primer after its already primed, primer is primer to me. plus, this is not a daily driver, just a project, i dont have it registered, or have tags for it, it just sits in the garage and no one see's it. im trying to get a deal on a paint job from the guy that primed it for me, but if i cant, then i think i may take it to Maco. i hear they do a good job, as long as its ready to paint, and i tape everything up my self. so we'll see....

Just remember, Maco paint takes alot more time and money to take off then it does to put it on.

If you plan on selling the car in the near future there is nothing wrong with a Maco paint job. But if you want to keep the car forever, then I would put the extra money into a quality paint job. In the autobody industry you get what you pay for.

There are still a few shops that will cut you a deal if you take off the trim yourself. But don't offer unless you plan on REtriming the car yourself. Let them prep and mask the car. Your paint job is their signature, and a good reputation means alot to a paint tech.

no! not sunset orange! im painting mine that color! lol im just kidding, these cars look awesome in orange, and shade of it. black is too common, maybe a electric blue? like a corvette? i did the same thing with my 84z28 before i sold it, bought stuff as the money came in. the car got all the body work done and the interior half done when i got my 87, so i got rid of the 84 for $1000. body work is easy if you have time to play with. last year, my sophmore year, i was doing all the body owrk, now that this 87 is done, i dont have anything to do because i dont have any money. well good luck with the car, and a 5" spoiler would look very nice indeed

yeah im HOPING that the guy that did my body work can give me a good deal. i asked him once, and he said their base paint job is around 1,200$. but i think if i tape the trim myself, and remove taillights/emblems, he'll come down. i really only wanna spend about 800$ for a good paint job, not really a show winner, but something nice. also, one of my friends has their own paintbooth at their house w/ everything i need, so i thought about giving it a try myself. it would def. be much cheaper! lol ive never thought of the black wheel w/ the center caps as the police intercepter look, i just didnt wanna lose the center caps, and those back wheels were pretty much pink when i got the car, so i just sprayed them black too! lol works for now! ^^^^ but you see whats getting ready to go on inplace of those "intercepter" wheels.

I dont like the black color on them wheels. The rims looked good with the red. I think one of em on your first pic was that color. Anyway. Id look for a personal friend that knows his way around body work/paint. A friend is alot cheaper then a quality shop, and can usually do a better job than Maco.

yall ever have the problem of trying to save up for something you really want, but along the way theres one or two other things you want, and you end up buying those. yeah well im trying to save up for the paint job, but i just spent 150.00$ on hotchkis lowering springs, and im prolly getting ready to blow another 160.00$ on 2 inch wheel adaptors so i can get those ZR1's on. i wouldnt buy the adaptors, but its a great deal, and i figure i better take advantage while its there. ill keep yall posted...

Hotchkis Springs Install...

got my hotchkis springs in the other day. i got the rear springs switched out in about 30 minutes, however the front proves to be a little more difficult. im not 100% sure of how to go about the front. i know it would be helpful to use a spring compressor, and i have access to one.... and i hear i need to jack the lower control arm down, is that about all there is to it? do i need to disconnect the stabilizer bar?

I just noticed that you are from Soddy Daisy. Kewl, I used to live in Knoxville, TN. I remember hearing about Soddy Daisy all the time when it came to HS sports events. I went to Knoxville Catholic High.

yeah ive been to winter fest several times. its pretty kool up there, and besides the 3rd gens, plenty of good looking girls up there too! i started installing the front springs today. i had NO idea what i was doing, i just read some post on here, and took to it. its really easy is all i can say! i had no special tools, just used what i had laying around the garage. the passenger side is done, and i started on the drivers side. im having a little more trouble getting the strut bar losened up on that side, so im gonna find a good breaking bar tomorrow and try that. ill post pics in a couple of days.....

been working on the car a little here and there, but theres not much more to do to the outside. im pretty much just waiting on the $ to save up for the sunset orange paint job im wanting. all the body works done, hotchkis springs installed, and my adaptors came in today for the ZR1 wheels to be bolted on. i still have to install the driver side spring... the struts being a pain in the *** and wont break loose. im gonna work on it as long as it takes tomorrow and get it on. thats why i only have the ZR1's on the rear, and not the front..... figured theres no reason in putting them on tonight, just to take them off tomorrow! slowly but surely, the cars comming along. sorry, the 1st pic is kinda blurred.

you could prolly sell the old rims pretty easy and make back a little money so you have more to spend on the car

i'd buy em but then i'd have to drive my *** to tenessee to get them

suggestion, take off the black paint. It looks nice but it dont match the rest of the exterior. Unless you are planning on painting the car a dark color i'd strip it back to aluminum.

what black are you talking about? the only black on the car are the door handles and the weatherstriping.... unless youre talking about the lug nuts?

I don't believe you mentioned what color ur interior was? It kinda looked like doeskin from the first pic. Those zr1's look awesome. Your car's got a nice straight body there too. Its got plenty of potential, I'm diggin it:hail:
