three questions from me:)

Hi all Three qustions to ask.

1) In regards to cowl induction hoods... Is there a useful purpose for the hood being like that. Or is it just for looks really.

2) What do you guys think of shaving the door handles? Is it too ***** or no?

3) I've a 87 Z28 and the drivers side molding on my windshield keeps catching the wind and flying loose. What do you suggest I do? Do I replace the whole molding or is there a glue that I can use for this? All ideas are welcome

Thanks All
Dennis

Most people just do it for looks, but there is actual functionality to it too. The way a cowl induction hood works, is that it is a hood scoop thats flipped around backwards, and has the carb's air cleaner inside of it. By doing this, the carb will be able to suck in cold and very dense air from the high-pressure area at the base of the winsheild when the car is moving, without all of the air turbulence of a forward facing scoop. colder/denser air going in smoother means that the engine can make more power.

PS - I noticed you are from Saskatoon too.. cool

So yeah, obviously on a TPI or MPFI car a cowl is simply for looks.

Ok, got it. But Is there a way to make a hood scoop ( ram air style) operational? As to not "just" look good?

Thanks
Dennis

the cowl hood on any car would be better than stock for a few reasons, the reasons that i can think of are a fiberglass hood is lighter, and the big one i can think of is weather it is carb, tpi or tb is the fact that that area by the windsheild is a high pressure zone and ill pich nice cool air on the engine to keep it cooler and lower underhood temps and the fact that its open also allows the warm air to go out the opening intead of holding the heat like the factory hood with the mat. and as we all know lowering underhood heat will make a engine!

Not exactly true. Cowl hoods can be functional in TPI cars also. For instance, if you have a bird and you don't want to cut the hood for the Holley Stealth Ram. A cowl hood is your answer. Plus. if you know how to do some fabrication, you can use it for an air intake. Here are a few for instance....

Now without the superchargers....it can still be done.

Shaved door handles aren't *****. People were shaving their door handles way before the import crowd started to.
