New Hood/matching paint question

I'm considering a new hood. I can't paint the whole car right now, and I've heard that the factory GM Bright Red is a tough color to match. Any truth to that?

....I don't want to take my car which is currently VERY clean, and make it look half-azz because the hood doesn't quite match.

....whaddya think?

if u there is a good shop they can blend the fenders.Just think about it in body shops if u get hit in the front of the car they are not going to paint the hole car to match.

If you live in a town/city that has a paint supply house or body shop that's worth going to, they have a 'scanner' (for lack of the proper term) that they can sit on your current paint to color match it.

Granted, it's not 100% perfect color matching and even if, mathing red with any age (or any color other than pure white or black) is a pita.

To color match 100% perfect, your car would have had to have been made (as in rolled of the assy line) or painted w/in the last 6mos. Red fades very quick (even if not visably).

A paint shop worth it's price will color match to the existing paint (not the paint code) and then blend to the best they can.

JMO based of the shops/paint suppliers where I live...

I have had 2 hoods painted and the rest of the car paint is still factory paint..... the hoods matched good in the daylight but both looked a lot more pink then the rest of the car under vapor lights at night
I am in the process of doing a factory composite hood currently so I hope the third time is the charm

most good body shops will spray out test panels and get it as close as possible.

or you can have them blend the fenders and bumper cover. thats going to cost alittle more $$$

or like someone mention, you can have them use the camera to scam the paint.

A friend of mine had a good point. I had a shop with a very good reputation do some repairs after a fender bender a few years ago, and they did such a great job, you CAN'T see the difference. The reason I brought up this thread was because I had a shop do a little work "off the books" for cash, and you can kinda see a slight difference. I may just go back to the first shop and tell 'em I want it done right. I'm sure they'll be able to handle it with no problem!

Ya get what you pay for, eh?

flrtin1 - I've had a Stampede for a couple years ... lots of fun to mess around with when I'm in the mood. It amazes (and disturbs) me, though, how much money you can spend on R/Cs. I wish I had the money to make my Camaro as nice a toy as yours.

well as far as blending just the hood they can make it almost perfect but not completely perfect, now if they blend it into the fenders it should look absolutly gorgous. it will cost more but its the only way i'd go without getting the whole car done

Thanks,
You have to know, that is 19 yrs worth of "stuff" on the car and it was a lot cheaper when I did the major part of it in the 80's
