Hi,
Today I found a junked firebird in the upick junk yard.

My firebird lights currently dont work and i dont know whats wrong axactly. I was thinking of takeing the whole headlights motors and etc. but Im not sure id like some advice.

If i dont take the whole nine yards what do you recomend i take and where exactly is it and what does it look like. (Im totaly new to these type headlights).

trickster has given me a little detail but if anyone has any pics to post to help or any info on how to get the lights out please let me know......
the only other things i know about these lights is what trickster said here: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=252225

Step 1 is to remove the big plate on the front of the car. they are 10 mm bolts. Then, there are 2 bolts to remove the headlight motor after you disconnect the battery and the motor of course. There is a little arm that you have to pop off (use a flat head screw driver) they are a bitch to put back on . As far as headlight removal, Im not sure. I have replaced the headlights in my car and thats easy but you want the whole buckets so Ive got no idea, sorry.

First, when you turn the headlights on do the small ***** on top of the motors spin? If they do they are okay, and you need to probably replace the 3 small pucks located in the motor. Its an easy fix.

To remove, take a torx head wrench to the 4 screws on the headlight shroud, take that off and the headlight out, and the headlight mounting bracket. For the motor remove the 3 10mm bolts. I used a ratcheting type box end wrench that made the job easy. Then remove the bolt holding the lever arm to the shaft and bring the motor out.

I just replaced the little pucks in my headlights the other night.
I found it easier to just pull the entire headlamp assembly out of the car.

There are 4 10mm bolts, 2 on the radiator support and 2 underneath the headlamp in the very bottom of the hole where the headlamp lowers into when the lights are down. If you have large forearms it may be easier to get to the 2 lower bolts if you remove the light from the housing first.

I ordered this kit from TDS,
http://www.top-downsolutions.com/pro...products_id=87

It has very good instructions and comes with everything you need to fix 2 headlight motors.

coool ive used TDS for help fixing my Hatch pull down on my Z....Lon and TDS rule!!!!!

Im pretty sure the round things on the lights dont move at all when i turn them on...cause i dont hear any movement at all when i flick the switch. So im assuming i got a electical problem maybe a relay or something. Ive made sure the fuses were good. I think it was burnt out when i got the car tho.

Im going in the morn to the yard so i guess ill take some electrical stuff and maybe the motors depending on what they want for them.

2 more questions tho:

A: How much do a set of used lights and motors cost on ebay if i wanted to get them and resell them if i didnt need them. So i can compair cost for me from the yard for a set.

B: Does anyone have a GOOD picture to post or even gm or aftermarket part #'s of the relay for the light motors.

The 1982-92 Firebird healdight buckets all remove the same. Here is a link to the instructions I include with the deluxe headlight repair kit I sell for the 1987-92 Firebirds (and other GM models). I need to update the instructions. Ignore the part about marking the orientation of the nylon gear.

Thanks lon....

I just got back from the yard and i picked up a tone of stuff...

steering wheel, 2 hatch shocks, 1 hood shock, fan shroud, a set of ttop rubbers, radio dezel, a headlight relay (beside fan support), relay beside the batt. on the fender(???whats this one for??), an overhead console w/flashlight (but flashlight guts are missing), guts out of the two headlight motors(actuators i think) and the headlight fuseable links (i think). it all only cost me 60bucks canadian.
I also found a good windshield there but ill have to go back for it later as i didnt have the stuff to get it out.

60 bucks (can) for em all

kinda sucks tho the hatch shocks i got anrt good enoght for my heavyer hatch. They were on a non wing non wiper hatch and held it up fine but the wiper motor and wing are making the new used shocks pretty useless.

I just finished welding in hte new floor in my firebird. Have to install the int. soon.
