Floorpans...

I finally got the interior out of the bird to get pics of my floor. I had damaged it a few months ago (long story). So would I be a fool to do floorpans on this? Did my baby just become a parts car? Pics are here...http://www.gmvsford.com/forums/showt...062#post125062

Oh yeah...the pics are NOT dial up friendly. They ended up huuuuge somehow.

Good lord... I've seen weld-in kits, and I've seen people do custom repair work, but you should check the frame really carefully, make sure there's no damage there..

Hate to say it, but if I was in your position I'd just do a part out and find yourself another car. Look at it this way, the production run was from '82-'92 and in that run they made millions of them. Rust free/un-rotted are still out there. Even ones with just a pin hole here and there i the floors like my car can be had. I say cut your losses and hit the car listings. Sorry....

My 91 RS was about as bad as that...I bought/installed new pans
110 per side plus shipping
I had a welder and all the hand tools to do the job
Do yourself a BIG favor...Look inside the wheel wells(top/back)
I had bad rot in all 4 of those too
I bet I had 200 hours of fabbing/welding...then I sold it
Live and learn
I wouldnt do it again...It was fun the first time....

Hehe . . . If you think that is bad I will try to find a picture of what my 91Z floorpans look like. To explain it there is a crack going from the passanger side door to the driver side door. The passnger seat is being held on only by 2 bolts that are bolted to the cross brace. It is completely junk. The rocker panels are also junk for they are dented all the heck and are rotting away. My buddy found me an AWESOME deal on some floorboards and rocker panels that i just can't pass up. The only problem is, I can't find shop that will do it for a good price around here. I would do it myself but my only friend that knows how to weld moved away.

wow thats ruff man...i just finished doin my floor, mine wasnt that bad but i just used like angle iron and sheet metal and just doubled it up and its holding up just fine i even jumped on it with the t-tops off...after i welded it in tho i bought some undercoating and undercoated the top and bottem of the floor pan i used like 10cans on top and bottem that stuff is pretty nice...just thought i would let you know how i solved my problem but urs is pretty scary lookin

if the rest of the body is good and the main unibody suports are all there and solid i would do the pans.

keep it- i bought a 1970 chevelle wagon for 300$ cuz the floors were rusted throught- 200$ later it had new floors and looked great inside- its all apart of workin on it man- i took up welding when i was 14 im 18 now and i use it every day. the floorpans are a little intimidating but it is well worth it in my opinion

I cant decide what I want to do. The passenger side isnt rust. I was turning around in a parking lot and I guess there was a fence post or something that somebody cut down, and left a stump that I ran over. It ripped the stupid floor open.

I pulled some old junk out to sell, and started thinking about all the work I'd have to do to part it out. Plus I'm attached to the car, so I'm not sure. I'd do the floors if I had a welder and some welding experience.

You are in for a LOT of work in front of you. The floorpans in F-body cars are part of the unibody and are attached to 3 more layers of sheetmetal towards the rear of the front seats. You can see it in your pics. It's not like the Chevelle Wagon pans where there is a frame under the car and all you have to do is to cut them out and weld new ones in. The rear portion of the floor pans in an F-body ARE part of the frame, as they make up the part of the body that absorbs the suspension travel. You can do them, but they have to be done right. From the looks of it, you may have a lot of hidden rust.

You can no longer get the inner or outer wheel wells. I have been looking. I think we all have an attachment to our cars, but sometimes the work to repair far exceeds that end result. Find a new one and make some memories in it! Keep a part from this one and install it into the new to keep this one alive. You can spend $2,000 saving this one, or use that as a down payment on one that isn't gonna require all the work.
