... Full Length Headers...
been running exhaust through my mind... goes sorta with the purple hornies question below this thread....
but... how much modifications to the floorpans would i have to make to use the heddman full length on my Z28 ? I don't have it lowered... and I'm assuming I'd have to modify both floorpans...
I can get them coated for a low cost so I'mm not worried about heat that much.... but is there anything else I should know?

I didn't have to do any floorpan modification to get my full length hedmans to fit. Theres plenty of clearance for them, just be prepared to have a custom y-pipe made. If the y-pipe is made well you shouldn't loose any ground clearance either. If you want to see pics of my setup click the link for my website in my signature and go to the exhaust page.

One thing I forgot to mention, the full length hedmans won't fit with a manual trans. So if you have a manual you might want to look at the hooker full length headers instead. If you want to know more about the installation, email me and I'll give you the details.

I have never had any problems with ground clearance but I don't drive my car everyday. I just measured my ground clearance, its about 4in. at the lowest point. It used to be more like about 5in but I just installed a spohn torque arm and had to get y-pipe bent down lower to clear the new crossmember for the trans. The headers themselves don't cause ground clearance problems the y-pipe is lower than the headers because it has to clear the trans. crossmember. Clink the link on my website for exhaust to see pics of my setup.

You can get the headmans to fit a manual car. I've got them on my 86 TA that has the T5. You have to grind the bellhousing and dimple the collector to get them to fit. After my expirence with them, i would not recommend getting them if you have a manual. Get the standard shorty headers. You can still run duals off them, and its much less of a pain in the *** .

I personally do not plan to use a Y-Pipe... I'm going to go full length directly into purple hornies (purty glasspacks basically hehe)...
so therefore I do not want the shorties... I already have them and they're not what I want in the long run...
If I do the exhaust I want I'm going to have to wait until I get SFC's then go by that...

Demon Z28, You will have to put a short piece of pipe that bends down after your headers to make clearance for your mufflers. Otherwise your mufflers will be hitting the trans. The collectors are higher up than the trans so you need a pipe that bends down then straight back to make enough clearance for the mufflers.

Yeah I was thinking about that as well... I had considered doing an S-Pipe off of each header and running them just under each floor pan (Yes, I'd take the times to modify the floorpans under the seats to do this, I also do not plan on using rear seats so would have no problem with bumps in the floor
... then having a turnout pipe in front of each rear wheel...
No mufflers though, unless its a race muffler, I'm gonna stick with the purple hornies idea, that way I can keep it slim and tucked under a bit more

I just want to make sure i understand what you intend to do..install full length headman headers, run glass pack directly off the header then run pipe to the rear of the car?
You will have to make the S-pipe you mentioned in the other post to clear the trans cross member. On mine, the cross member is like 4-5 inches past the collecter, but directly in line with it. You could make the s-bend, go under the crossmember and put glasspacks after that.
I *should* be getting my car back this afternoon. I'll let you know how the shop ran mine, and the results.

Hedman's work with T5's now? :: scratches head :: man thats some confusing shyt...
Anyways, if I did the S-pipe... they'd go off the header and they'd kick out before the crossmember then go into the glasspacks... then the rest of it is up to the imagination I guess...
I'd like to see pictures if you got em

They will work with the T5, it just some effort
You have to grind a good portion of the bellhousing away as well as dimple the collector of the header. Its a tight fit, but it will go in.
You should be able to get away with out the s-bends in the pipes. The exhaust shop loosend up the crossmember and put washers inbetween the bolts to drop the cross member down. It gave them enough clearance to put the pipes over the cross member, not under.
