Thoughts On My Paint Scheme?
Ok...here's a pic of my wierd-*** paint job as it is right now. Last year, the car was rusting through so I took it down to bare metal, fixed any problems and then laid down 2 or 3 coats of rustoleum primer and then a load of black spray just to stop it from rusting. I'm planning on a real paint job in the (hopefully) near future and I'm just throwing this out to see what people think. Notice that I still need the door GFX pieces. I want to shave the door handles and maybe remove that little plastic "ding strip" running down the doors. How many people are horrified by the color scheme? This truly is a project car. I bought it off of a friend for $1.
Any thoughts on if I should keep the color scheme?

ya know, if you just paint the mirrors black, it just might look a lot better, or better yet, paint the car red and the gfx black

yea. paint the mirrors black and do a wrap around red stip to connect the spoiler to the gfx so it is a constant line and it may not look to bad

Originally, I wanted to go all black, but since I had to paint the car anyway, I decided to do a color test. Yeah...I was thinking the mirrors were too much as well. Angelis83LT, what do you mean by "wrap around red stip to connect the spoiler to the gfx"? Do you mean extend the angle of the spoiler down until it hits the bottom?
Well, well, well...this is by far the fastest I've ever had this many replies in such a short time. Controversy sells!

I don't wanna sound like a jerk, but I dislike it a lot. Looks like you have a black car and baught a red parts car and didn't get around to paint the parts.

No, it's cool. It would be a bad thing to not say anything. I'm asking for opinions before I pay a few grand for a real paint job. When I got the car, it had no GFX. I collected them (all except the door pieces now) and painted them red just as a color test. I had no clue what it would look like until I was finished.
I was also considering a fade from black to red. How about that? And yes, a maroon color would probably come out better.

What i meant was to basically extend the red color down the back quarters from your spolier to the gfx. that way it makes a solid line all the way around the car

I would look into some different colors or color schemes. IMO that red is too bright next to the black. maybe a few different colors would help. I found my colors on here

it has every ppg paint code in it.

I don't know guys... I don't totally dislike it, and I see the potential.
Of course I remember the mid eighties, where that was commonplace on thirdgens.... (The two-tone ground effects.)I think you're just used to seeing the ones with the door ground effects on them... that's throwin' everyone off.
I see a matching stripe breaking it up just before the bottom/just before the ground effects . Maybe even a multi line like what originally came on my 84.
In any case the car looks in good condition and well worth the buck he paid for it. Take it easy.

I'm sure you could make it work with a black body and red gfx. Right now, IMO the red clashes real bad with the black and doesn't flow. I'm sure if you played with it in photoshop you could figure something out to tie it all together.
What would be cool is if you match the ground effect to the rest of the car and put a red hockey stick stripe down the side.

How would it look if:
1.) The red door trim were removed
2.) The mirrors black
3.) The spoiler & ground effects really dark maroon (kind of a black base with maroon over it)
4.) The black body were faded into the dark maroon?

Well PhLaXuS IMHO I think that it looks like you got drunk, painted some of it and passed out. Oh and BTW I think that you forgot the door handles.

my 2 pennies.... tone down the red a little, and add some classic racing stripes... loose the random red accicents.. and it would look sweet

So if I gave the entire car ~3 coats of black and then overlayed one coat of a maroon over the GFX...something like that? I'm very much considering removing the door trim and the mirrors will be black. Should the spoiler get the maroon overlay or stay solid black? After all this is finished, I plan on possibly laying my own version of a heritage stripe: I want to run a tribal pattern that's maybe 10" wide from the front bumper all the way to the rear bumper; offset to the right to about where the passenger's head would be. What color would look right there? If the entire car is black and the GFX are only somewhat distinguishable as maroon, what color should the tribal stripe be?

I love the look of flat black, but I don't know if it is more prone to environmental damage than a glossy paint. Anyone?
