Re: rear quarter panel help

if you have a friend who has a welder try sheet metal. or take it to a shop that you can trust. if soemthign was big enoguh to fall off and is as rotted as you say. have somone look at it or post pictures. i would hate for you to repalce the whle quarter panel but some might suggest that as a possible option. but no bondo you'll never be happy. bondo is for a car you just want to run. a littl body filler is ok to help get straight edges but not for a whoel section. hope this helps

Re: rear quarter panel help

thanks ill try to get pics up tomorrow. the car is practically rust free, except for this panel. not so much of the quarter is bad, its all there, its just i pulled really hard and the lip came off in parts. im sure i can get by with out putting a new panel in. i have access to a nice welder. i know im not going to get the car so it looks new, but i want it to look nice and hold up for 3 years or so, hopefully longer. thanks

Pontiackid Post some pics of what you got to work with

you can replace the quarter panel skin for about $120 or so Or If your good at custom body work Get allot of kitty hair fiberglass, fill the area with a lot of it I mean stuff it full grind it down do the shape its supposed to be and then start in with the bondo / glazing putty I wouldn’t recommend that for a thirdgen though... I did a 1991 f150 like this for my brother but it was his work truck and he was sick of looking at rust I must say It didn’t look to bad. they don’t teach rust repair like this at body school I haven’t gone yet since I’m only 16 its just a trick a picked up from the older guys at the body shop

My quarter panel was pretty nasty too so I went out to one of are newer body shops in town and talked to the owner (now my boss) about what I should do. he told me to come out and start working on the car on Saturdays, in short I had him weld on the new quarter panel skin and I did all the fill work, its not very hard at all it just takes time.

Here’s a thread of my car if you wondering what a thirdgen looks like without a quarter panel https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...ress-pics.html

Re: rear quarter panel help

By lip I assume you mean the ridge that runs along the bottom of the door area. It's not as structural as it is cosmetic, and how to fix it depends on the damage. You could bondo it, fiberglass it, or weld it. If you plan on keeping the car, I'd just get it welded if you have the money (shouldn't cost much).

If you post some pics, I'm sure we could help out a bit more...
