rather than search all the endless rice looking stuff i figured i would just see what you guys think looks cool on a bird. i might at some point want to put a 454 in the car so clearance would be nice

Im thinking about a different hood on my TA since I mangled my stock front end. I love my stock TA hood. Im not much for the ram air hoods. I just dont think they go well on 3rd gens, even though Ive seen a few look really really hot.

So Im thinking about trying the Harwood 3" fiberglass cowl hood. And this is the picture that made me want to give it a try...



I think with my wheels, and the aero spoiler, it will flow pretty nice. Im not normally into cowl hoods, and Im still not sure if it will look good on my car. But...I can always re-sell it. And maybe get some extra for it since it will be painted black already. Other than that...I dont know if I really like any other hoods right now for the birds.

Except the IMSA hood which is like the formula power bulge hood, but with two bulges put together. But you cant find those things anymore. You can get just the cowl part...but I dont feel like messing around with bonding it to the hood and doing all that extra work.

OK SO IF I WANT MY CAR TO LOOK LIKE THE ONE IN THE PIC WHAT YEAR NOSE AND TRIM AND GROUND EFFECTS DO I NEED?i love that hood and the nose and side skirts.is that car a ta and whats the differance between a ta and a gta and what does gta mean. on that note, what does the word CAMARO actually mean if anything at all, im soo easily side tracked!!!lol
anyways i want the look of the car in the pic for my 84 s/e what do i have to do and how much is that hood and who carries it?

Well its a harwood 3" cowl. Summit sells them. Not too expensive...shipping gets you more than anything. Unless you can pick it up somehow.

You would need the nose and GFX and all for the 85-90 Trans AMs. You are going to have to find most of that stuff used because the nose has been discontinued and is even had to find aftermarket anymore.

I think that black car would look 100 times better without that spoiler... with just the regular areo spoiler. I dont know whats on the back of that thing but Im not a fan.

I like the Ram Air I hood. The ram air II hood likes like crap IMO. Does anyone still make the Ram Air I hood. I can't find it anywhere.

I put the camarro SS ram air hood on my '92 firebird. I think it looks really good on the car. matches the body lines nicely

That's the one I think goes best with our body lines, especially the 85-90 body lines. I don't like that the Ram Air II hoods only have 2 of the 4 nostrils. Even my Tahoe had all 4.

84noname: There's a huge bonus for carb'd and throttle body injected 'Birds....that Type II Ram Air hood can be made functional and provide lots of cool fresh air to a hungry motor. With the shallow slope angle of our Third Gen's, I'm guessing that the cowl hoods can only provide minimal cold air induction & are better at providing carb clearence and venting engine heat.

If you put a 454 in your 'Bird, you might not be very happy with her road manners after that. A 454 isn't light and will make her very nose heavy. It also means you need to do some hacking to get it in that engine bay. Its just a suggestion, but I think you should keep a small block Chevy in her, but go with a 327, 350, or 400ci. They're so much cheaper to buy and build too. A 454 might be nice for a drag car, maybe....

RA I, yes. Since the RA II hood is basically identical to a 4th gen RA hood, I think it looks wrong with only 2 nostrils.

I mean this one...It should have all 4 nostrils.

Yeah, thats the one I meant too. Just seems like too much, unless you put one set onto the nose cone like a 4th Gen. Those hoods are almost level front to back, and there isn't much room above the latch. I'm planning on buying one for my 'Bird...unless I find one of those Aluminum ones that Okfoz seems to score a lot of...

My Tahoe had the center section raised a bit, kind of a bulged center, to make room for all 4 nostrils.
