roof dynamat and hopefully block out some leaked in water. i have done other things to keep water out from the t-tops but this is just another just incase step
plus a picture of my led taillights which are sequential in 3 sections i had to fix them because some leds were not lighting due to loose connection

Re: My 1986 Trans AM take a look...
it's been a while since I looked at your ride bobby.
Looking superb mate.
I just noticed that you have the same tail lights as I do.
You're gonna love what I've done to my centerpiece.
I haven't posted it yet because I kinda like that it is unique.
I'll send you a PM with a pic.
I still need to do a little nightshade on it to hide my work in the daylight.

Re: My 1986 Trans AM take a look...
thank you, i hope i have provided some nice ideas. you can save money by going directly to what you want where i had to keep making changes and upgrading. but yes i hope my build shows you there are little limitations to what you can do with a thirdgen trans am.
some minor updates will be coming up later on but this is how the car will stay this time since im finally happy with most of the outcomes of the exterior and interior.
feel free to ask any questions on how i did something or where i got it etc...
thanks for your kind post.

Re: My 1986 Trans AM take a look...
Hey, your KITT inspired car is phenomenal and has given me a lot of ideas for when I go get mine from Chicago in August and drive it home to LA.
I have an 88 Formula that I bought while I was deployed over seas. Exterior wise I am only missing the front bumper for now. As for the interior I swapped the stock dash out with the digital dash from an 89 GTA. You can see what few pictures I have here http://s636.photobucket.com/albums/u...murf/Firebird/
You can see the digital dash pre-install and I will add pictures in August of it installed.
I definitely wanna try and get that pioneer radio or at least one like that. Been trying to find one for a while. As for the carputer I was thinking about using my old IBM Thinkpad laptop to start out with. I can't wait to get started working on my car again as I haven't been able to since I was last in Chicago in December.

Re: My 1986 Trans AM take a look...
thank you very much, im glad my work can inspire others to make their own car the way they want it.
i saw your pics and you got a great starter/project car. id love to see the gta dash all hooked up.
goodluck with the rest of your project and keep me/us posted.
2 bits of advice from my own experience.
1. the carputer was a neat idea to me, but theres not a lot of places to hide it and all the pc's computers are just too slow to start up and get to the desktop. its cool for doing stuff at car shows perhaps but i'm very pleased with my pioneer system. it boots quickly.
2. depending on your needs and wants for the car. save yourself time and money online and try to find a decent parts car and strip it for parts. you will save money trust me.
goodluck and thanks again for posting.

Yeah I was thinking of just going with the Pioneer unit. Only problem is I can't seem to find that one and I'm not sure what other models would work as well. Especially one that I can upload a custom background like you did. Been trying to find that Mio GPS unit as well with no luck.

Re: My 1986 Trans AM take a look...
the pioneer x920bt can be found on amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-AVIC-X...4470908&sr=8-1
but do some research and make sure you get what you want.
there are newer models and just search pioneer avic and theres other model abbreviations as well but that is for the much higher models that do everything except make you coffee haha

Just added a shifter **** sticker with the knights head logo used on the original KITT steering wheel. Its a custom sticker made to spice up the interior and the shifter. It wasn't in the show.

What scanner is that? I went with a cheap scanner off ebay that has a remote and different modes but not sure I wanna go with it. Plus having the sound effects would just be so much better.

Re: My 1986 Trans AM take a look...
I updated my door handle stickers. I wish there was an exact replica made but these knock offs from ebay will have to do.
i carefully removed the stock ones and saving for maybe my camaro or who knows. they are rare so i'm holding onto them either way.
then I prepped and painted the handles back to glossy black and insterted the new sticker decals

new knight rider logo sticker for the steering wheel came today. i put it on my grant steering wheel since i didn't go the replica route of a true kitt but went with my own mix and design.
the sticker is black and red even though the red looks dull or pale in the picture

Re: My 1986 Trans AM take a look...
they are from classic leds and they are the late 70s taillight versions notice the top corners are curved and not straight edged.
The 82-84 versions i also have and going to test but they have missing lines in-between and i like the full led board look. so not sure what to do yet.

Congratulations! It's nice to get recognition for all the hard work you put into the car, especially when it comes from people other than friends and relatives.

Re: My 1986 Trans AM take a look...
a guy in the netherlands custom made them for knight rider buffs.
sometimes he sells them on ebay. I don't see any up now, but if you join the knight rider forum http://www.knightfoundation.net/
you can ask around there, its where I first learned about it. not sure if the guy is going to make anymore.

Nice work man this is exactly where I want to go with my 88 formula 5.0L T-Top. Question... How's the dynamat working for you so far? Does it feel like your inside a 2012 car? Referencing road noise and such. That's what I was planning for mine.

sorry guys, trans ams fuel pump died a year ago and funds have been spoken for since buying a house and not knowing which mechanics to trust since moving to florida has delayed KITTs return. I keep his battery plunged in and just wiry of the price tag to fix the damn thing
