Looking for flat black third gens
I tried searching and there weren't any good pics of flat black third gens. I have been thinking about getting my car painted this color instead of repainting it white. I am planning on doing it myself so it doesn't have to be show quality but anything is better than the current paint. I want to decide before I pull my engine so it would be easier to paint the engine bay while the engine is out. I don't want the primer look either, I guess that what I am lookig for is a satin finish?

Re: Looking for flat black third gens
If you want a non gloss look, there are a few hotrod companies that sell stuff that will work. One idea is to use CARC (though this isnt what I'm doing on mine), but I have a military truck that I have this stuff on, it's SUPER tuff and has a not primer but not normal look to it.

Here is one that I primed while modifying/rebuilding for a guy, becasue the original clear coat & black paint was in really bad shape, and this looked better.

Re: Looking for flat black third gens
ive came to the conclusion that flat black doesnt work well on these cars, it just makes them look like *** on 4 wheels. i was thinking about a flat black paint job but when paint it like jet black with alot of clear coat the lines of the car pop out more...but either way enjoy painting i know i love it

Will the sun kill a matte finish? I mean, you don't want to wax it right? Aren't you losing that layer of protection?

86-Iroc-Z, How did you paint that? Is it primer or actually flat black paint? Im going for the same look myself. Except I have a 4 in cowl and the 91-92 effect. But yours looks awesome!

Re: Looking for flat black third gens
to me the camaros look better flat or satin black than the birds do
i have seen many birds flat black in the past locally here and to me tey look like ***
dont forget that primer does not block moisture and will allow rust
in which you cannot get away with here where humidity is sky high in the 90% almost every day during spring summer fall
even most painted vehicles rot out in a matter of a few years if they are driven all year round especially
im not sure how im ever going to repair my 82 its getting so much worse and FAST
it may not be repairable at this point, now it needs both full quarters and tire storage floor is totally gone and so on, but the door and rockers are great, even the pins are not worn no sag at all, floor boards all solid
but still, a TON of work needs to be done hmm

Re: Looking for flat black third gens
I used the John Deere Blitz Black Paint. I sprayed it with a cheap Campbell Hausfeld siphon feed gun. It turned out great. It's only been painted for about 5 months.
