82 fiberglass hood *pics*

Well here is the concept of what I want my car to pretty much look like with real paint but done with spray cans since it was relatively cheap (.94 walmart flat white enamel) to get me through till next spring. The hood is slightly moddified (82 smc) to try and slope where the louvers were once at to flow more with the hood. Still needs some work to get that perfect curve and I believe it will look gorgeous... let me know what u think.

When my car was white, it was easy to keep it looking good. Now that it's nearly black, an hour after washing the car it looks dirty again

I always found white hid dirt really well compared to darker colors, curious, what louvres were you refering to?

Re: 82 fiberglass hood *pics*

there was two small rectangular plastic pieces (louvers) at the back end of the hood, towards the windshield. after removing them there was two holes that needed to be filled so i decided I might as well try and smooth out the 125 degree angle or so that was originally there. if you look for the year 82 hood you can see pictures of what it looked like before as I don't have pictures prior to the work

She looks really sharp and you did a nice job from what i can tell filling the louvers. 89RSPower there were 2 SMC hoods one was functional for CFI cars and a non functional with blank off panels for the openings.

Robrob you could keep the functional louvers but then you would have to deal with water intrusion.

Re: 82 fiberglass hood *pics*

I don't believe it was a functional version if it had 2 small holes when he removed em. Those are just the holes that the studs go through to mount the plates.

CYA RS, that is a great improvement on your hood! Love the race flag paint job that leads up to the louvers! Now that is a great reason to leave them on since it flows with the paint.

right, there were also dealer installed blockoff plates to make the functional hoods non-functional to combat the "ceasefire" problem.

If I wanted them functional, I would have bought a functional hood with the proper air cleaner. I wouldn't want all the water going in there. Just having 2 open holes in the hood like that is just asking for trouble.

Re: 82 fiberglass hood *pics*

Since your smoothing out the bump in the front you should fade the red paint in. Sort of like the stripe on a '82 Vette

That does sound like a great idea. I will definately work that into the final project since this is a concept with spray cans.

I'M WORRIED ABOUT HOOD CLEARANCE. IT LOOKS PRETTY TIGHT UNDER THERE. I REPLACED THE CFI WITH A PERFORMER INTAKE AND EDELBROCK CARB. ONCE I PUT AN AIR CLEANER ON IT, I THINK THE HOOD MAY HIT IT.
