I haven't really done anything "ghetto", but Bunnydoom became intimate with his Camaro a while back and now there's a condom in his oil pan

Re: 'What is the most ghetto thing YOU'VE done to your car?
I haven't really done anything ghetto. I'd like to think everything I do is rather tasteful when it comes to performance. Haven't done much at all on the IROC. But at least now it's completely gutted, trans is pulled, engine is pulled, ready for paint when I want to do anything with it.
But I have had a T56 6 speed swapped into the Mustang, and picked up a Vortech supercharger for it. That $4K wasn't too ghetto.
I guess you could consider a gutted car ghetto, even though it's intended use will be a lightweight track car that does not need creature comforts. Here's how it looks.
Eventually the car will be black, even a gloss black on the inside and it will have carpet. Not a total track death trap.
I do awesome things with cars though.
Ghetto, yadadamean?

Re: 'What is the most ghetto thing YOU'VE done to your car?
And here's a ghetto 4 bolt block that may be stroked out to a 383 and thrown in the IROC. Although I may save it for another project and drop a TPI L98 in the IROC for fun. It'd suit it's generation better, while an old 1st gen 4 bolt 350 block would be better off in a C3 Corvette.

well I posted this on the other thread but my Edelbrock cat-back exhaust most of the mounting hardware on my car was missing so i did a ghetto bolt up with these U shaped bolts and matching washers, you can that i McGuyver'd it and it actually holds up pretty well so i am leaving it permenantly, or til my next exhaust job many years from now

Most ghetto thing? Currently it's the green primer on the roof and hood where there used to be rust (rest of the car is White), although I'm sure I'll do something more ghetto before the car is back together. Trying to think of a way to ghetto rig the driver's window regulator to the door as all the mounting holes in the sheetmetal are busted out, so that will probably take the cake when I figure out a way to do it that doesn't involve bodywork or welding.

Re: 'What is the most ghetto thing YOU'VE done to your car?
The summer after I finished m V8 swap I had my exhaust come apart while driving. It was right under the passenger's side door where my homemade Y-pipe went into the original cat. The pipe was scraping the ground and I was afraid it was going to catch on something and tear the whole exhaust out from under the car before I made it the 15 miles to my house. The only thing I had in the car to tie it up with was an old computer keyboard. I tied the cord around the pipe, ran it inside the passenger's door and slammed the door on it. Worked great till I was able to fix the pipe.
I suppose some on here would consider my Dukes of Hazzard horn "ghetto" as well.

Re: 'What is the most ghetto thing YOU'VE done to your car?
The most ghetto thing ive done is put a boom boom stero system in it. Or I guess I put a couple screws to hold the front of the headliner in. they are covered by the visors though so you cant really see them. The clips broke and I really needed a complete new assembly for the liner so this is hopefully only a couple year fix...haha.

Re: 'What is the most ghetto thing YOU'VE done to your car?
My car has an aftermarket cat-back Flowmaster exhaust that was on the car when I bought it. I'm assuming that because it isn't stock, is why the original rubber hangers weren't used with it. After recently putting on the new headers and Y-pipe, the whole exhaust is in a slightly different spot - so I drilled a hole or two, and braided some 12 gauge wire as hangars in 3 different positions. Some may consider this ghetto, but it allowed me to place the exhaust exactly where i wanted it and it's centered now, as opposed to before.
I really do my best to not do half-assed work though, so that's about the extent of my 'ghettoness'

how about taking the tpi off to use a carb instead. (that tpi setup really sucked, never ran right and had massive DENTS in the runners, we didnt cut any wires tho) Ive also been known to fix open vacuum lines with whatever i can find in the "random" drawer in my tool box, (broken spark plugs, old ratchet extensions, 3/8 to 1/4 adapters) wierd stuff like that. Ive even held the tip of my whale tale spoiler on with a zip tie. LOL

Re: 'What is the most ghetto thing YOU'VE done to your car?
Yahtzee, I've got to see a pic of those rims... If they're like mine, yours would be only the 3rd car I've seen them on in 8 years (mine, a F0rd truck, and yours)..
Anyways, my most ghetto had to be either the half-baked exhaust I got forced into working on or my homemade sub box. PO of my car had broken the engine crossover pipe right where the 2 pipes from the separate heads come together, and then welded in a 2.5" Flowmaster 80 series (leaked at at least one of the joints) on the end of a STOCK intermediate pipe he cut the cat flange off of and welded in a test pipe (in place of the cat). Had to have the cat, so I cut the welded end of the pipe off and chiseled the front end off of the y-pipe, and cut the flange off of the cat. Put the cat on the y-pipe like it's supposed to be, and used a piece of that flexible pipe stuff to connect it to the misaligned y-pipe. The flex pipe broke through within a month... Finally had to cut off the intermediate pipe from the muffler and do it right when the flex pipe broke again going down the road at 60 and making my car sound like crap for about 10 miles. And after that the whole system got replaced from front to back because I was sick and tired of trying to patch the 1" by 1/2" hole where PO half-baked the repair of the y-pipe (like everything else, misaligned and useless for the most part... Probably because he was drunk most of the time ).
Sub box was made out of various 1/2" plywood and MDF I had laying around... Only had enough for one half of the box, which was okay since I only had 1 sub anyways. It may have looked like crap, but it sounded better than the bare sub sitting in the trunk well. Funny part was that the idiots that broke into my car left the sub and the amp but took my headunit. Not like they couldn't just push the button and release the hatch or anything...

Keep in mind it was my first car, and I was a teenager, so....
Predator body kit, held on with 3M tape. Unpainted. While on a roadtrip, the driver's side fender piece flew off and a semi behind me ran it over.
Wonderbar had clearance issues, so I drove it for a year with 1 bolt missing.
The gas pedal was crappy looking, so I took it off & bought a new one from GM.... And couldn't figure out how to install it. I drove without it for several months.
Removable face plates are great for security. Bad when ya can't find it though. I've got the entire factory system with upgraded speakers and a Sony head unit that can't do anything.
Brake dust shields. Yeah, I tried em. Makes your discs look like drums, but still tons of dust. Yay...

HHHhmmmmm... On my '86 IROC, the cooling fan wasnt working and there was no signal coming from the ecm for the relay, soooo... I hot wired a signal from the ignition and now the relay gets turned on whenever the key is in the "run" position. I live in AZ and the fan would be on pretty much all the time anyways. I just did that til I have the opportunity to pull the harness and repair it. The PO had some strange ideas about wiring...

Any way you could PM me with the P/N on one of those caps? I think they're 89-9098SE but I'm not 100% on that, and I can't find a part # anywhere on the caps.

LOL. Thanks Yahtzee! We are westerners, so over-cooling is not really a problem for us! The PO had it on a swirch under the dash, but after I drove it to work and forgot to turn it off, I decided another plan of action was in order. Dead batteries suck!

Re: 'What is the most ghetto thing YOU'VE done to your car?
The other day I was driving home in the middle of a heavy rain storm and when I got halfway home my wiper switch broke and would just keep spinning. So the rest of the way home I had to keep pressing the button that shoots wiperfluid onto your windshield just to keep from dying. Wasnt too bad of a day though becasue before that I did my first donut! It was pretty funny becasue it surprised the crap out of my friend with a Mustang. Had him sitting inside and I started moving it in a little circle and gradually gave it gas. He was laughing until we did a 450 in one fell swoop!
Also my headliner is sort of coming of on the edges in places so I took my staple gun to it...GOOD AS NEW!!! haha

Re: 'What is the most ghetto thing YOU'VE done to your car?
The fabric for the t-top headliner started separating. So I krazy glued it back on. I got pretty freaked out when it started smoking!! Luckily, it didn't catch fire. The result is completely invisible to anyone unless they stare at it.
One of these days, I'll swap out the headliner and the side strips for the t-tops (the right one is starting to separate), but with the exception of a set of Lloyd's floor mats, I'm spending the money on mechanical stuff for now. And there's been plenty of mechanical stuff!
The only other ghetto thing is the cords for my cell phone charger and cassette adaptor kind of lying around wherever they happen to wind up, but I'm ok with that.

I did something similar but on the side of the headliner! I replaced my headliner with a new abs one and one one side of the t-top bar the fit is aweful--the headliner on the drivers side sticks out and looks like crap. I put 2 screws in and now it looks great. Ghetto yes, but wasnt really sure of what else I could do and the screws are virtually invisable.

Going to redo the whole thing myself since the backer board was literally in pieces due to rot...

Most ghetto thing I've done is silicone pennies in the holes where my spoiler used to be. Just to prevent water from leaking in.

I spray painted them black so you can't even tell. Wasting a couple cents is a good temp fix compared to $400+ for the spoiler.

probably way off topic with this thing not really being ghetto, but my friend's Dad put a 67 Shelby model car behind the rear seat so you can see it in the rear glass of his 08 Mustang Shelby lol, it'll be ghetto when it smashes his windshield out. Also for my exhaust I used these bolts shaped like a U and fashioned a somewhat permanent clamp for my missing exhaust hangers.

Re: 'What is the most ghetto thing YOU'VE done to your car?
The airdam is probably the most Ghetto item on my car at the moment. It works though.
At the time I'm still saving up so I can place a big order at Hawks and Summit to have all the stuff I need to finish the car shipped overseas in a container all at once, so it'll have to hold for a while yet.
At the time I purchased the car the licence plate was pretty Ghetto I'd guess.
Also, since the 3rd brake light didn't work the PO painted it. I cleaned it, only then found out I have to re-wire it so I taped it up again. Now it works. Will however get some VHT niteshade and high gloss clear on it somewhere within the next few weeks since I liked the black look better.

Also, since the 3rd brake light didn't work the PO painted it. I cleaned it, only then found out I have to re-wire it so I taped it up again. Now it works. Will however get some VHT niteshade and high gloss clear on it somewhere within the next few weeks since I liked the black look better.

@ Orr8RocZ, yep, definately ghetto, I love it
@ Chevy86, I can assure you it was a snug fit.
Initially it was on there using zip-ties untill an officer stopped me on the way home after I bough it, and demanded I fit the licence plate using screws, as would be the intention.
I told him the licence did not fit. His arguement was that I then better screw the licence plate to the rear GFX.
I told him that in foreign countries people actually made licence plates that do not cover the whole car and that I would get a permission to fit smaller plates after registering the car to my name.
(I really do not like people demanding me to willingly damage my property. Red numbered plates in Germany are for 5 day only registrations)
I had a screwdriver along in case I would run into bad luck on my way home so I amused the cooperating officer by folding the plates untill they fit, then attach them using the licence plate screws that were fortunately still in the bracket.
He wanted to give me a ticket for insulting an officer. I told him I did only follow his instructions to the letter by using screws and the bracket intended for the purpose of fitting the licence plate.
Did not get the ticket in the end, but I think I would have followed up on it if he had.
After getting the car home I got a permission from the vehicle registration dept. to use motorcycle plates which fit in the bracket.
