Paint Work

I'm just posting this showing off some of the work I've done. I'm 21 years old. I've been painting and airbrushing for about 6 years, I've been in a family body shop since I was two. not much I havent seen. First up is a toyota x runner free hand airbrushed blue true fire.

In all seriousness you do some excellent work. Especially for your age. Keep it up. And get you work out there for the world to see.

Re: Paint Work

Just depends on the job. I use about the most expensive paint there is, for instance the hardener alone for my clear is $180 per court my cost. I do not cut corners anywhere. But I give ppl there moneys worth. I donated the work on the fire hydrant and firemans helmet for a 9/11 benefit.

Suzuki gsx1000, extended swingarm, turbo, billet wheels, and some custom paint... sweet bike. Total of $28000 dollars altogether. I had approximately twelve hours of masking on this.

Re: Paint Work

Old school Harley guy wanted some big flake flames on his bike... No problem. This was so bright out in the sun you couln't look at it long. Nearly ten coats of clear to bury the house of kolor flake. And cannot feel a tape age on the flames ANYWHERE.

Having retired from the collision repair industry, I've bought thousands of gallons of paints and hardners. I must confess I've never heard of any brand of hardner that costs $180. per "court"(quart?). What brand is that?

Yes quart, sorry for my misspelling I looked back at that and shook my head. We use Spies Hecker basecoat, clear, and primers.

Wow! Their prices must have skyrocketed more than usual since the last time I was acquainted with Spies. Of course, Spies hardner comes in a litre can rather than a U.S. quart. That may make some difference.
From a shop point of view, gross profit on Spies paint materials compares favorably with other brands...in other words, the initial higher purchase price is diminished by other factors in the long run.

As you probably know, Spies-Hecker is owned by DuPont.

Re: Paint Work

I really like Spies I had a little trouble at first because I used to use Diamont and they used to 4:1 on clear and all of Spies is 2:1. We actually had a collision job on a 10 zr1 recently which we used some DuPont glamour clear it turned out great.
