84 water leak into cabin foor air vent
Hi,
Well apparently when I was converting my 84 dash and heater system over to the 92 style. I overlooked one major piece, and now I have a huge water leak whenever I wash the car.
Any water that went into area where the windshield wiper linkage is, all of it was going right into the car.
So today when I removed the screen and looked in there, and as soon as I saw the hole I knew I screwed up.
The old 84 heating/vent system had these vents that you could open by pulling a cable under the steering column. And there vent was right above the drivers side above the column. When I swapped over to the vacuum style system. This piece was not used in the systems that had A/C.
My question, I found the piece that I had taken off but it's huge and has the cable on it be really hard to get up in the dash and remounted. Did the cars that came with A/C still have this hole, and did they use a plate to plug it off? I think that would be a little easier to get up in there.

Thanks, I'm really glad that I didn't throw that piece away. Now just have to get it back up in there.
I'm actually surprised that GM used 2 different molds for that piece, I figured they would just have a plastic cover for the ones that didn't need it.
