Painting Finally!!!
Finally painting my car. Hope to be done by the end of june. Gonna get some bumper stripper tomorrow and finish strippin the bumper. I got the left side door and rocker ground effects, and fender vent off to sand either tomorrow or saturday. Also the body molding off to stay off. I'm paintin the factory red color of a 75 trans am. And I'm also gonna shave the antenna. Also on the list, t top headliner, carpet, and weatherstripping. And a bunch of small stuff. Gonna check the bank funds tomorrow and see what all I can order. So stay tuneddd!!!!!

Re: Painting Finally!!!
Another good idea to do with this project is to use a scuffpad to your tailights and put a clearcoat over em. it will really shine em up. I did that with my old 84 bird. and it looked very good.

Re: Painting Finally!!!
my new best friends lol. strippin the front bumper and this stuff works great. Got it from my friends paint shop for 13$ a can, picked up 2. The scraper i got from advanced for 8 bucks. Had 3 metal and 3 plastic razor blades and the plastic ones work great for getting the paint off after you spray it. Just wear jeans, t shirt, closed shoes, not flip flops and basketball shorts cause that crap burns like hell when you get it on you

Re: Painting Finally!!!
passenger side fender ground effect ordered, decal kit ordered, primer kit ordered, interior door panel molding with weatherstripping on its way. cant wait to get my car back together to get all this stuff out of my room.... front bumper, all the ground effects, weatherstripping, carpet, sound insulation, front seats, some audio stuff, gallon of primer and a quart of hardener. To much stuff and not enough room, still gotta order the t top headliner, exterior door handles, door lock actuators, and door lock switches and now a power mirror switch from 1a. Slowly but surely gettin there. Gonna work on it all day tomorrow so I'm hopin for alot of progress to be made

Re: Painting Finally!!!
Best way to remove front hood vents: Step 1, (pic 1) get a universal drill bit thingy, Step 2, (pic 2) drill out the inner holes, it will drill off about half the stud but will not effect mounting, only drill enough to squeeze the socket in there, Step 3, (pic 3) Now you can take out the 5/8" speed nuts easily and completely drill out the hole so it is the same size as the other one.

Re: Painting Finally!!!
Best way to remove side hood vents, get 4 flat tipped screw drivers, put 2 on the outer edges to slightly lift up, then take the other 2 and push the clips in and pry up, careful they break easy figured this out the hardway, but if they do, you can plastic weld em back together like I did (no pic of it sorry)

Re: Painting Finally!!!
thanks, I got a question, i ordered the factory decal set, do I put the decals on after i spray the basecoat and then clear over them? Or spray the basecoat, 1 coat of clear, then the decals then more clear? Or just put them on over the clear?

Re: Painting Finally!!!
IMO, that's too big of an area to clear over. My advice would be to paint it then put the bird on after.

Re: Painting Finally!!!
I wish it was a GTA, I hate those rims. but imma keep em regardless. GM just cant paint, or maybe they just sucked in the late 80s/early 90s. Red definately fades the worse. I love the T-Tops, definatley a must have for me, I dont care if they leak haha

Re: Painting Finally!!!
Color combo: red is main body color, its off a 75 Trans Am. gunmetal metallic is the secondary color for the ground effects. Its from a third gen
