Rocker Panel help!

All right, I'm new to this so go easy guys.

First off, I'd like to say hello to everyone, and hope to really gain some knowledge about the 87 GTA I'm tasked with getting in running order again.

She's been sitting in my girlfriend's mom's garage for at least 6 years now. Was originally turned over and run for a while every week or two to keep the fluids from sitting, but that fell off maybe a year into it's storage.

The 350 in it now (the original 5.7L that rolled off the line) has seen more than it's fair share of use, sitting currently at about 190,xxx.. and I'm not 100% sure on that

Anyway. I would like to learn as much as I can about getting this tired bird back in running shape. It's going to take time and work (most likely plenty of both ) but I'm pretty sure I can handle the tasks. Problem is, I don't know where to start and could use some solid advice!

First off, I'd like to get the passenger side door to open and close freely, once more. Last summer, someone tried jacking it up and managed to bend the rocker panel (I'm assuming).. watched the car drop about an inch... and now the door won't open past an inch anymore. I'm assuming I'm going to have to pull the quarter off and attack it from there. If so, how do I go about doing this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Re: Rocker Panel help!

Im goin by how a camaro is as I have never stripped a bird before. He goes to get the fender off

- 3 bolts at the very front where the nose attaches to the fender that run up and down
- take off the inner fender plastic
- Undo all the bolts holding the Chin piece to the bottom of the fender
- all the bolts that run along the top of the fender
- need to get the rocker GFX off and under it is a few bolts where the pinchweld is

Im sure thats all that holds it on. there might be a brace or 2 im forgetting but you will see them

Re: Rocker Panel help!

Thanks! I have it up off the ground now (sure was interesting getting the floor jack under the cross member...) and I'm giving it a full tune up to see if it'll run, before I dig into the fenders and waste time lol. Needs some work on the driver side as well, camper smacked right where the turn signal's at and dented it all to hell. Is it reasonably easy to get them off? I'm already assuming it's a 2 man job, considering the hood'll have to come off as well
