so... i have the option of buying a 1988 camaro iroc. it isnt in great shape...
it needs both front fenders, the front clip and bumber, the rear bumper and all components, the whole interior, the engine is siezed, there arents many good components in the engine bay such as the engine coolant container. it also needs new brakes and brake lines, a new starter and battery, tires and wheels. the body had a couple rust spots, but the frame looked relatively sturdy.. would this be worth the asking price of 100$?..

Sounds like the car needs a "new" everything and will take a lot of time to restore. Keeping cost down will make it take longer too. My car is rust free but needs many new body panels, bumpers, etc. I was able to find used replacement parts of the past few years but it is a daunting challenge to say the least. The car is a good one being an 88 Iroc that you can get for $100. Would be worth it if you could find a donor car that was in an accident and you could transfer over pretty much everything. For that you would still need lots of time and space to work on two cars. If you don't care about getting model specific correct pieces, you could probably put it together cheaper and faster by picking over a couple of thirdgens. For example, I see people part out interiors on Craigslist all of the time and also engine/transmissions. Let us know what you decide.

Only as scrap metal.
If it needs every thing it is not a car any more.
If you have a scrap metal dealer near by it is worth about $300 to them, about $125 to a junk yard.

My '85 bird was given to me for free. I have $4,000 in it and it is still junk. I could buy a nice one for $3,000.
Count the cost before you start trying to resurrect the dead.

All about the rust....around here anyways. Rusty complete cars can be found pretty cheap around here. A rust free shell would be worth it here.

To some no rust means no holes, I mean no rust at all.

thanks guys, all good thought's. i am picking it up sometime soon, i think ill buy it no matter what. ive looked into one of the local scrap dealers, and they offered 350$ i could also sell some of the plastic parts as extra. i will take my time, and try and decide wisely, because its a car i have always wanted, and seeing as im only 15 it wouldn't hurt my free time too much.

I'm 15 too, a Firebird and IROC was all I wanted to. Once my dad said he found a 1987 GTA I was all over it. It's it rough condition too. You might want to pass on the iroc because I thought I could take on the GTA but its going to have to be restored in the future. I ended up buying a 1988 Formula in good condition that needs a fender, headlight, and hood fixed. I'm almost done with it and i am much happier with it. I would keep waiting, so many other cars are out there.

Are you looking to have it done by your 16th birthday? Those were my plans for the GTA but I found out that wasn't going to happen lol! But if you don't plan on that it would be a perfect learning experience

hahaha, noo i was planning on taking a while on it. it would be cool, but i dont think i cold do it physically, or financially.. but over a couple years, i would like to have it done. say for when im 17

Good luck kid. I can tell you have passion and desire. But you would need deep pockets if that much is truly gone on that car. I have spent over 4K on a 1991 Z28 and I have not gotten to the body yet. Keep in mind, you can buy aftermarket sheet metal but if you really want to build one correct, you should do your best to buy used OEM parts. Our third gens are rapidly becoming a collectors car much the same way the gen 1's are.

Have you ever checked craigslist? Tons of good stuff usually on there
