Should I keep going or sell her?(The car!)

Hi everyone, I have a 91 Firebird Formula that runs well. I put in a lot of time and some money into the car but just wondering if I should keep it. The wife thinks it's a wife beater car and I should get a mustang (No thanks on the Mustang.) I get a mixed audience that look at my car, so do you guys think I should paint the car black or any other ideas? The car still gets the ladies though, LOL.

Car show pic....(BTW not the wife!)

Re: Should I keep going or sell her?(The car!)

Maybe you answered your own question ... your car attracted a female (NOT your wife).

In answer to your question, if YOU like it, keep it. If you sell it because of pressure from someone else, you will come to resent it (and maybe her).

Re: Should I keep going or sell her?(The car!)

My Ex wife had a big part in me selling my 72 Nova and I miss that car every day. If you like the car-keep it. Oh and sitting on cars is a bad idea.

If you really like your car, then you should definitely sell it.

Re: Should I keep going or sell her?(The car!)

Not a fan of the wheels (I prefer stock), but I like the rest of the car. I'd keep it the same green though if you're thinking about repainting. I see that being a rare color someday since everyone likes to repaint them red or black, not to mention that it's VERY costly to do a color change right, and black is going to show more flaws than any other color (especially if not done right).

Bottom line: if you like it, keep it.

Re: Should I keep going or sell her?(The car!)

I've sold one car because my better half wanted me to. I regret it everyday. I made decent money off of it, but still regret it. Didn't think I would miss it nearly as much, and I had 2 other Camaros, plus a 4th gen TA at the time too. As soon as I watched it leave on the trailer I thought "I shouldn't have done that". My advice, keep it if you like it. Don't get rid of it to get a different one she wants.

Do you have any more photos showing the whole car to get a better idea of what your paint looks like.
Any car is going to look like a beater with paint all messed up and pealing.Once you have it repainted it will take on a hole different level of respect.May be show her a few photos of 91 Firebirds with beautiful paint from this site and see if that helps with the way she feels about the car.

That's exactly what cost me my Corvette yellow 70 Formula.....After three years of ground up restoration and mods to finish a week before getting married, My new wife couldn't stand the thought of me cruising around in it.

Six months in she told me I had to get rid of it..... That was the hardest choice I've ever had to make, Four years later I got rid of her !!!

Have a sit down talk with your wife, Explain how special she is to you and how your bird has a place in your hart as well. Hopefully she will be understanding to your feelings, If she still request you get rid of it, You will be like the rest of us (p-whipped) and regret selling it for years to come.

Good Luck

Not only is sitting on cars bad, wearing shoes while sitting on your car is not the best way to keep your paint looking great. Other than that...nice car and don't sell unless it's something you want.

I don't let people touch my paint let alone sit on it ,but this photo of his hood shows that paint damage has already been established.

Re: Should I keep going or sell her?(The car!)

My wife and I have an agreement... She makes no comment on my cars (or how much I spend) and I say nothing about how many purses she has ($300 for purse? Really?)

The best advice....keep cars and women as separate parts of your life....they do not co-exist well!

I will be buried in my '69 Camaro.....and I plan to drive the 92Z until it is no more.....

My wife knows better as she has her crap and I have my car. I gave up alot of stuff to build my car and pay all the bills along the way. If she told me the car or her she knows what will happen as ultimatums get met with extreme measures as far as im concerned

I'm lucky that I have a women now that encouraged me to get the car that has eluded me since I was 16. She told me that if I work hard for my money why not treat myself. Plus she has her shoes and purses and says if she has that hobby I can have my own.

Although I love these cars, you could sell it and use it as a way to purchase something "better" such as a kit car or older more rare muscle car. Thats the only way I would part with mine and even then it would be tough. I would have to sell to a person out of state!

Agreed... When he pointed out that it wasn't the wife, I wondered what a prize the wife was.

It's your car, if it's what you enjoy, keep it... Everyone and their grandma wants a mustang. It's not very original and I think people get certain cars to fit in, be cool and seem like they are car peopl. Not many people are in to 3rd gens enough to look after them. However, they do get a surprising amount of attention.

I don't care what is said about the car... "Guido machine" "white trash" or whatever... It's the car I wanted.

I race motocross. I've told every girl the bike is #1. Not only is it the bike, it's the constant weekends on the road, the week nights practicing, wrenching, working out or packing for the next weekend. Oh, and the thousands of dollars spent (seriously $10,000 a year minimum).
Watch Eric Bana's documentary "love the beast" with the wife and maybe she will get it. Has a few minutes with dr Phil in it and he puts stuff out there in a way that she should understand why men need these types of things.

Keep the car and ditch the wife for someone who appreciates these cars. Or just tell her that if she doesn't like it, she doesn't have to ride in it. My wife is ok my my camaro, but hates the way I drive it

if shes telling you to sell it then shes not accepting you for who you are or respecting your choices. see how she feels when you tell her to sell something important to her. told my now wife when we started dating, im a car guy, I eat, sleep breath live all things auto. I even work for a major aftermarket performance parts co. my wife wouldn't even THINK of telling me to sell my birds.

I say keep the car, ditch the wife.

Re: Should I keep going or sell her?(The car!)

No one has the right to tell some one else ((especially their husband or boyfriend)) to sell their car !!!!! That's BS !!! Maybe some jealousy, control, or some other issue going on !!! If someone ever told me to sell my Iroc I would tell them to take a hike !!!!! They don't have to like the car but better damn well respect it and respect the things I love,,, as I would do for them !!!!

If ANYONE EVER sits on the hood of my car their *** would be on the floor so fast and a good yelling at would follow !!!!

If you want to keep that car then keep it !!! Don't let anyone tell you what you can and can't have,,, stand your ground !!!!!!!

Re: Should I keep going or sell her?(The car!)

People that say that a car is a certain stereotype are being foolish. Yes, certain vehicles are bought by people that fit a stereotype but a car is a machine. You should tell her that plenty of people that buy Firebirds/Camaros are similar to people that buy Mustangs. It also seems that people that buy cars to impress others are the ones that put heavy value on a cars image or a brand's image and other trivial matters like that.

I would say to sell the car when you are tired of it or when you want to replace it with a car that you like better.
