Re: doors hinges

I did mine with the use of a motorcycle jack and some ratchet straps going under the door and over a beam in my garage. Liberally cover every edge of the door and door opening with painters tape and put some old towels under the jack and where the straps go around your door.

I'm not sure why you would need to remove the fender. If you have a dremel type rotary tool with small cutting discs you can fit it in the jam far enough to grind the heads off of the upper hinge pins. It's tedious work.

I just did this a few days ago so it's still fresh in my mind.

- Tape off your jams and door edges
- Support the open door with the window down (jacks, straps, engine lift or whatever you come up with)
- Remove the spring on the lower hinge with eye protection in mind. I just popped it out of there with a small pry bar. I also used a couple zip ties loosely zipped the spring to the hinge so it wouldn't fly across the room or into my face when it popped out of there.
- Set up your rotary tool with a small cutting disc and start grinding the heads off of the upper pins (you'll go through a few of these discs)
- Remove the lower pin. (this one just pushes out from the bottom to top. There is a retainer that you may have to squeeze together with some needle nose pliers. If the pin doesn't move try taking or removing some tension on the door with the support jack or straps until it wiggles out of there. You may have to tap it from the bottom with whatever you can fit in the door jamb.
- Once the hinges are free from the hinge pins move the door away from the car a few inches.
- Install your new bushings then move the door back in place to install the upper and lower pins.
- get yourself a door spring tool and reinstall the spring.
- drink beer(s)

You CAN do them without taking the door or fender off....You do NOT want to remove the half of the hinge that is bolted down if you do you'll need to adjust the whole door again and thats a PITA... To start I use a floor jack to hold the door in place ....So you do one hinge at a time I start with the top hinge pull the two pins then carefully lower the door a bit so you can pull the bushings out....replace the bushings raise the door back and put the pins in ,tighten the nuts and its done.then I do the bottom pin ...but the main thing is dont remove the hinge ....
if the hinge is really worn and the other half of the hinge that holds the pin is worn then the pin can still wobble around even with new bushings you can still save it by using another set of bushings in that side (I can post pics of how its done) basicly the bottom hinge will have four bushings insted of two...
Buy the spring tool for 10.00 it not only helps install the spring it removes the spring saftly ,check the roller pin and roller they too may need to be replaced

Re: doors hinges

I took the door off. I couldn't slip the bushing between the inner and outer hinge without moving the door away from the car a couple inches. This link shows a picture of how it should look when complete.

Those are the expensive ones arnt they? I used the ones from Oriellys 10-15.00 no grease fitting...until I did my camaro I never saw a hinge with a grease fitting on it.http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/repl...3-newpost.html

Re: doors hinges

just take the door off, no need to take the fender off, tape and mask everything to minimize the chance of chipping the paint, those andyz28 bushings are what i've used, did this years ago doors open and close flawlessly

If you decide to remove the door scribe an outline of the hinges first so you'll have a referance where they go when its time to put the door back on.This will save hours of guess work and adjustment time.
For what its worth I stripped my car to the metal, replaced the rt rocker and half the pillar, then replaced the 1/4 but getting the doors adjusted to my satisfaction was the hardest part of the whole job, it took about 2 days to get them right, 1 1/2 for the drivers door and a 1/2 day for the pass door but I got it done and they are much better than factory specs now.... http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/repl...3-newpost.html
