82-92 Firebird Antenna - Power?
Hello Everyone,
We just manufactured a short antenna for the F-Bodies. It fits 93-02 Camaro and 82-92 Camaro. It does not fit the 93-02 Firebird because they have power antennas.
I need to know if the 82-92 Firebirds had power antennas only or not?
Thanks!

Not only I don't think, but they were available. My car has one. Which broke as I was pulling it into the garage for it's last drive of the season.

According to the Parts Catalog the Power antenna was available for 82-92 FireBirds.

Allrighty then......Just got my replacement parts AGAIN for my repair AGAIN. Needing to know the best lubricant to use in the motor/spool assembly that won't gel and harden. Also NOT to be used on the cable itself, just the friction parts of the spool.
Any ideas?? Graphite, Krytox (aerospace lube)....

Believe it or not, the antenna is supposed to be lubed with a light oil once every year after a good cleaning. I didn't have any issues with the one on my 93 Grand Prix after I rebuilt it with a USED mast out of a Buick (once I got the gears aligned right).

A little off topic to the "lube for motor/spool assembly" question in post #10, but I believe GMs thinking on mast lubrication evolved over time. IIRC, my Firebird manual says you can clean and lightly lube it. The manual for my '96 Buick very clearly stated that no lubricant of any kid was needed or recommended.

OK, got the antennae repaired; new GM mast assembly. Cleaned all the internals, gears, and limit switches. Lubed gears lightly with White Lithium grease. Left the nylon cable alone. Wiped down extended mast with 3in1 oil, and reinstalled. Works like a champ. Good for another......?????years. We'll see. Thanks for all the tips! What a topic!
