Quick block sand done on the epoxy to show high and lows before laying filler in pic,I have since scuffed all the lows with 80.
just looking to see if anyone has any tips/tricks how to tackle this. I am currently not set up for spraying filler for another month or two and don't really want to wait....
So, I have some fiberglass resin left over and was thinking about thinning out body filler a bit with it to get a good skim spread over the entire hood and concentrate on long blocking one section at a time. Will likely take a few takes over to get it leveled out. Will be spraying it with 2k after done the bondo. then block out.
Basically everyone who looks at it says to just go aftermarket but I really want go keep the original hood for this restoration.
just looking for thoughts and opinions if you care to chime in.
Get it the best you are able and live with any leftover imperfections. You can spend countless hours to get it perfect, and next year you will be driving it and get caught in a hail storm or something.
I have learned it is best to live with some imperfections, unless it's a show car that will be kept indoors most of its life.
Was somebody doing the Duke's slide on that thing or what? Patience is the key. Block sand with a long board. Use a contrasting primer as a guidecoat. Beat out what you can from the back side. Lightweight filler on the top. This will require several sessions of blocking. When you think it's finally pretty straight, shut off the lights and use a flashlight held right next to the hood shining across it, you WILL find spots that need more work. Circle those spots with a pencil so you can find them after the lights are back on. After ALL of this blocking and working the panel THEN you are finally ready for the high build filler primer. When that is cured up I do my final blocksanding wet with 400 grit and a soft block....only now is it ready for paint.
Thanks guys, some good tips exactly what I was looking for. Never thought about spraying filler before I will look into the feather fill. I imagine that just gets blocked out similar to working a normal filler?
