LS1 Front Brake Upgrade Questions
I have read the articles concerning the LS1 front brake upgrade, and need to clarify some items.
Does the "hub" for this upgrade NEED to be from a 1LE rotor, or can my existing front rotor be used as the hub?
Also, if I get two spindles complete with calipers and rotors still on them, will anything beside new hoses be missing?
Can I use my existing hoses, since they are still good?
This upgrade does NOT require cutting off the bump stops, correct?
Thanks for the help.

My input differs on this just a bit:
As it's "designed" right now, you can't use a 1LE hub without using a 5/8" thick bracket. The 1LE hubs add .300" more outward offset than a stock hub has so the bracket would have to be that much thicker. I use 5/16" thick brackets (.3125").
Unless someone does them different, you DO have to remove it. Here's a pic, the stop is where the red lines are.

Thanks for the information. Is there any brake upgrade besides the 1LE that allows you to keep the bump stop?
And is the 1LE upgrade still more expensive that others? If so, is it just because used parts are difficult to find?

C5 lets you keep the stop but it also requires 17" wheels. BTW, the stop on the spindle never really touches the stop on the A-arm so it's not really needed. We debated this in depth a while back...you won't miss it.

My appologies on the incorrect info re the 1LE rotor I was unaware that there was a bracket thickness related issue there I did the C5 swap so I left the bumpstop but can see from those brackets you use Ed that it does indeed have to be removed. I have seen some different brackets around here thought that may or may not require this I dunno. Nonetheless...

Yea, I agree. Ed sems to be the guru of these types of mods, and I appreciate him taking the time to answer my questions.
Ed, I must have missed that thread discussing bump stops. Thanks again for all of the knowledge.

Thanks for the info.....I will go back and re-read the FAQ post.

I am sure they work quite well, but a little out of my price range!
Thanks for sharing, though.

Yep, forgot about the Allen bolt usage thing, that would work fine, BUT...here's my point:
If you look at his picture he linked, there's a shiny spot (as viewed) in the middle of the cast circle of round things, just to the right of the shiny lower spindle bolt. This is where the stop on the A-arm actually hits the spindle, so you can see that the steering stop really doesn't do anything so there's no harm in removing it (IMO).
