rear disc brake trouble

My rear disc brakes aren't working worth crap in my 86 iroc. The car has been pulling to the right when I brake. I strated the car up while on jack stands and dropped it into gear and hi the brakes. The rear wheels didn't want to stop without slamming the pedal. I'm going to check for air in the lines and change out the fluid. If this doesn't work what's next. Should I look at buying a set of new (not reman) calipers? I think reybestos make brand new ones but I'm not sure. I'm also wondering if I might need to change the rear brake lines? Does anyone make new lines from the booster to the rear? I don't have a lot of cash so I'm not looking for an expensive upgrade. The only driving my camaro does is light weekend driving

Theonly reason I was thinking it would be anything other than the calipers is beacause both side are equally bad. I was thinging maybe the center hose or the hard line from the master cylinder could be bad.

Does anyone have a diagram of the disc brake system for that period since I'm not sure when the brakes setup changed. I looked up parts on advance auto's site and came up with a rear center hose and a right rear but no left which I found odd. I guess I could jsut look under the car tomorrow...

The early rear discs are notoriously bad. There is a fix kit (search). The fronts may require new rubber hoses.

I saw the recall kit for the rear disc brakes. My vin falls in between the sequence numbers for the recall from the norwood ohio plant, but the recall notice stated manual transmission car not automatics had the recall. Maybe it was a typo. I already have new rubber hoses for the front brakes. Now I just gotta look at getting the center hose and check for air, sludge, or if the calipers look like they work at all. I've also got new pads for all around. I should have checked the pads the last time I had the wheels off.

Well, bled the brakes today and all was clean and flowing properly. Still no brakes so it looks like I'll be getting new calipers. Any reccommendations, tips, or hints?

I don't think you need new per se, remans should work. I think the old calipers just sat too long and the pistons corroded or something. Just get a good set, not the cheapest thing advance auto sells and you should be fine. Its also a good idea to flush new brake fluid through the entire system twice a year, or at least once a year. Something that usually gets put off or forgotten about that adds a lot of money to every brake job later down the road...

Think I found the problem. I took the calipers off the disc and pulled the pads off. I depressed the brake and the piston moved just fine. I did it again and noticed bubbling coming from the outside. I rotated the caliper and found bubbles and fluid coming out from around the bolt that goes from the outside and connects to the piston. I noticed that something had come off that looked like a gasket from around the bolt. I guess I just need a rebuild kit.
