advice for removing parking break assembly

Have the calipers off the car and the whole parking break assembly has me baffled. Not sure what i do and dont have to take apart, and there is a spring that has what looks to be a lot of tension i hope i dont have to release.

Have a dealer service manual but it only tells me how to completly disassemble the mechanism, id like to leave it as intact as possible

Re: advice for removing parking break assembly

I have popped the spring off using a screw driver and pulling the e-brake line forward. You can probably get the cable off if you have the brakes off and everything disconnected. also the springs on the end that push the cable out of it would help if you compress those.. will make things easy.

Personally on mine the spring sorta came off by it's sel. so My e-brake handle is stora just hanging there. heh.. the springs on the rear make sure that the brakes do not lock unless the handle is pulled. Or just unbolt the whole thing and move it back a little.. and slip the cable out of the slot it is in.

Re: advice for removing parking break assembly

It should be pretty straight forward. I did mine just a couple days ago. Once the calipers is off, just squeeze the spring a bit, and you should be able to get it off with a flat head screwdriver. The bracket is held on by a bolt/nut deal. Really hard to screw it up. I took pics in case I had trouble putting it back together.

Re: advice for removing parking break assembly

allright, i actually pulled the calipers off a couple days ago and have been really sick since so havent taken a good look at it. Just pulled it off, looked at and was like wow that doesnt look like fun lol

Youre saying that big coiled over twice spring you pull right out, then just unbolt it. I can deal with that, i would have never known what to do with that big spring tho, looked like there was a fair amount of tension on it.
