91 Trans am a miss, wrong diff and brakes for year, Advice?
ok, I have yet another problem, I bought this car a couple of months ago, the guy said he changed out the rear to a 89 posi 9 bolt, 3.27 gears, well here I am getting the disc calipers for the rear and new rotors, and my bad I didn’t look, but when I pulled the wheels off, the brake parts are totaly wrong with smaller rotors so:
In looking at the forums, I have found out it has 83-88 disc, which sucks! but money says do the best with what I Have.
For sure it’s a 9 bolt, counted the teeth, and confirmed what the diff. tag said, 3.27 posi. I did by rebuilt calipers, new pads and diff brake hard and soft lines, new rotors. For early non PBR disc's.
Question is: I still have new brake cables for the car, left and right for the 91, new in the box, first design, made for disc brakes, can I still install these or do I need and earlier design cable, how do they adjust, anything else I may need?
Any help or advice would be welcomed.

1) Does your car have adjustment in the tunnel like the 82-88 cars did (I understand some 90+ cars were equipped with them)?
2) Length of the new cables may be an issue.
3) The ends where the new cables mate with the old-style caliper may be completely different.

James, is there a significant end difference to the cables? Someone threw an 88 rear in my 89 - Never can get the ebrake very good one side "slips" out of the adjust bracket. Seemed like a very flawed design but, I seriously doubt the previous owner got the cabling right.
rj, those brakes suck, I have them. If the ebrake ratchetting mechanism gets dirty it's horrible, barely any e brake. But hopefully your rebuilt ones have the updated adjuster.

When I swapped to PBR's, I used the 1434 mm length cable (56.4566 inches. These were used with an adjustment in the tunnel), the longer cables are 1460 mm (with no adjustment in the tunnel). You might check RockAuto for lengths and/or cables for earlier models. Since you have the tunnel adjustment, I see no reason why cables for an 82-88 cars wouldn't work.
