Front & rear upgrade

I wanted to know if anyone has used the ssbc quick change caliper kit with dual pistons for the front, they are direct bolt on & is it a good kit to buy for $400. Also i have 12 inch LS1 rear brakes from a 99 camaro i wanted to change my rear drum brakes too. Would this be a simple swap? Thanks any help appreciated!

Re: Front & rear upgrade

there is a tech article on the home page, in teh tech section, on the ls1 disc swap to a drum axle, its pretty straight forward, but does recuire some cutting and drilling. Also you have to remove the axles. All in all, its not hard, ive done it twice. Parking brakes need special cables to make work.

front, dont both with that kit, its not worth the money. It will cost a bit more, but check out flynbye.com (think its .com) or bigbrakeupgrade.com, for upgraded with larger rotors are better calipers setups. The ls1 and c5 vette upgrades are quite common, but it all depends on what you are doing with the car and what size wheels you are using.

Re: Front & rear upgrade

if you can do some of the spindle modifications yourself, you can do an ls1 front brake swap for around $400 and it would be a better option. my current swap totals

$75 rotors
$50 pads
$100 calipers
$75 adapter brackets
$90 hub machining
$20 misc hardware and tapping supplies

Ebay man, EBAY! That's where I got my FULL LS brakes front and rear for $355 shipped. You still have to mod your stock rotor into a hub, have brackets made, and mod your spindles. If you've a little mechanical insight you'll knock it out for WAY less than any kit.

I'm currently in the middle of the full swap myself, along with a full front and rear suspension rebuild, and steering rebuild. I'm currently stick on the parking brake........I know flynbuy's cables are awesome but I think I can make it work for less.......

Here's where I got my brakes:

The rotors I got from this guy were literally at OEM spec meaning they were basically brand new. I did the drum to disk conversion like you and it's not too bad.

This is the tech article:

I also did this to my car since there's really no correct prop valve:

Re: Front & rear upgrade

I like the 13" wilwood kit for $515 on Flynebye.com is that a good kit? It suppose to be direct bolt on with spindles rotors calipers etc

16s were pretty standard on 4th gens, so you should be able to run them on the rears without issue. I'm actually looking into doing something similar for my own setup (LS1 rears, 16" slicks)

Re: Front & rear upgrade

Does anyone know about the wilwood 13" FSL conversion. It seems pretty good for the price $515 from Ed.
