86 iroc
Just wanting to know what if anybody would be interested in a 1986 iroc.I
live in Columbus Ohio,the body has been stripped to bare metal and repainted the factory chevy bright red.I installed a comp cam in it over the winter with new timing chain and gears.I installed new valve seals,all new gaskets and hedman headers with y-pipe.Interior is in good condition,front seats have seat covers on them{fading,and one small tear in drivers seat}.The car has about 130,00 miles on it,no rust at all on the outside of body,some surface rust on undercarriage.I will list some other tings like the pros and cons of the car,just to give people an idea.If somebody is interested,I will post some shots of when it was in the body shop to what it looks like now.The reason I am thinking of selling is I am going to need the money{bills etc} although I really do not want to sell.
Pros
-------------
New gm front nose
New pant{I have almost 3000.00 in paint job alone,and thats with me helping}
no rust
all rust removed,patch panels installed
new engine components{cam seals,etc}
Trans was rebuilt before I bought it{700r4
new sway bars
good tires
tuned port
new weatherstrip at door glass.
cons
--------------------
speedo inoperative{needs cable I believe}
small play at steering box,I was going to see if I can adjust it}
Oil gage just stopped working{has plenty of oil pressure,30-40 at idle}
some small scratches in t-top glass{not very noticeable}
I just drove it this week and have put about 50 mile,and runs good.
If anybody is interested,let me know and like I said I will post pictures{
probably tomorrow}
Thanks

Re: 86 iroc
I think it would,but I would not guarantee it.The interior is not original but it is in pretty good shape.I have seat covers over the front seats at this time.The upper dash cover has no cracks in it,but somebody at one time used adhesive to attach something to it,and I have not been able to remove this.

Re: 86 iroc
I just came back in from driving it,it runs pretty good.Trans shifts good and handles pretty well.I still want to try to adjust steering gear because it does have some play in it.The car is not perfect,but the exterior is excellent condition,interior still needs a good cleaning.One other thing is the a/c is not hooked up,but I have almost everything needed to install.{missing accumulator and bracket},new gm a/c hose assembly.Let me know if there are any more questions.
Thanks,
Chris

Re: 86 iroc
I am going to list it in the local paper,I would hope that somebody here would like it,I have so much blood sweat and tears in it.I hate to sell it,but bills are bills and do not have much choice.I thought about ebay and still do not know.I wish that somebody who can appreciate the time and effort put in this car and will cherish it and continue what I was doing to the car.Let me know if somebody would like to take a look at the car and see if interested.I want somebody with the passion I had to get the car,not some person who could care less about the heritage of these cars.Thanks,
Chris

Re: 86 iroc
Some questions...
You said you put on headers into a Y pipe, does the car still have emissions equipment intact? Cat. converter? Do you think it would pass an Ohio emissions test (Echeck)?
So interior isn't that great? If I wanted a clean interior(I'm picky), am I correct assuming that it would need new seat upholstery, carpet, headliner, sail panels, and sun visors? Are all the plastics in good shape as well as dash and console? Color of interior?
Is the drivetrain now leak free?
Good compression in all cylinders? Burn oil?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm sure it would help your sale to post more info anyways. I may be interested, but would like to have a better idea of what kind of money I would have to sink in it for a nice ride.
If you can, please post or email some more pics such as, engine, interior, better body shots.
Thanks,
Phil

Re: 86 iroc
I still have to put the crossbar over engine,and have the battery hold installed.Also have to relocate cooling fan override control,thats what you see on top the battery.
Thanks,
Chris

Re: 86 iroc
Agreed...everyone on here either has no money yet for one, have a bunch of money for a perfect one, or just won't pay over $2K for one. The consensus on here seems to be that anything over $2K is ludicrous...which seems odd to me as these cars aren't that common anymore and they are hacked all the time from bad wiring fixes, cheap owners, and ragged out from young driver's beating them for the most part.

Re: 86 iroc
The interior is not perfect but I would sat a 7 out of 10.Also the exterior is an 9-10 out of 10.I do not know if it will pass smog check,there is no air pump at all any more.I washed it today and it looks remarkable.The outside is almost perfect.You want to know compression,well it runs real good.At about 2500-4000 it will let you know I have changed the camshaft.No jokes this is a nice car.If I strip down the rims,clean them up,and paint the stripes,I would say you are looking at a showroom car{and not kidding about it}.I will leave this as my last response to this thread,as I have had a couple people interested in this car.If you want come look at the car,I am not playing around.
Thanks,
Chris
