Trade this for your third gen

Looking for a clean stock to mostly stock third gen. I really want a 91-92 car with the big spoiler on the back. Hard top, t-top, auto or stick does not matter. I like the 87-up IROC cars but would really like it to be clean. I'm not really looking for a project car. The car has to be reliable and not beat you to death on the road. I'm looking for a car I can take on the Power Tour next year and be comfortable. Here is what I have. It is a 80 with the LM1 350 and the TH350. It is stock except headers and new duals. It has power windows, tilt, deluxe interior, rear defroster, factory stereo and the aluminum N90 wheels. This car wears two year old paint and decals. It was a great body to start. No rust on this car anywhere. It is complete except the spare tire and jack. I have a clean title and a binder with the build sheet and manuals. I am west of Atlanta off I-20 about 40 miles from the Alabama boarder. This is not your average 2nd Gen car. It is as nice in person as in the pictures. Let me know if you are interested.

I'd Power Tour that '80 for sure!

I'll be touring in my LS1/T56 car. Can't wait, I've been 4 times and always had a blast.

I could put in a overdrive trans but I think I'm ready to move on as well. I've always wanted a third gen. I did the tour this past year in a 78 TA and it was alright. I think a more modern car would be better. I just don't want to mess with this car.

We just did the Power Tour in an IROC-Z. Just remember that the more 'modern' car is still 20 something years old at this point, including all the electronics. If it can go wrong, it will

Re: Trade this for your third gen

Thanks for all the offers. I am shocked that I have two buyers that want to look at it on Saturday. They are both people off craigslist so I dont know how reliable that will be. If one of those people buy it then I will be looking at the black RS in Minnesota and the white one in Indiana that are in the for sale section here.

Re: Trade this for your third gen

Craigslist sucks. No sale out of two people. I said I dont want guns, bikes or boats. One guy lowballed me and then offered to trade me his 2002 Z71. The other guy wanted to trade me a 65 beetle straight up.

I want a stock 91-92 Z28. It must be clean, reliable and beat up and have a/c. I have no preference on the transmission. Not into teal greens or yellow cars.

Truth be told - this is the car we were looking for before we bought our 89 with 79,000 on it. Not perfect but so much cleaner than most I see sell.... Ours is Deep Red with Tan (Beechwood) interior and 5.7 TPI, T-Top (can't get 5.7 t-top after 89) and 700R4. We are in Missouri. Pretty solid car overall, having the car looked at by a buddy tomorrow to resolve the timing issue. Already had new injectors, distributor, Module, TPS and MAf. All Delco parts... Brand new tires purchased not yet mounted. NOS Hood vents in the box, T-Top bags, 2 extra consoles (one early one with clock, one 5 speed), Brand new (not installed) smoked GTS headlight and tail light covers in box, a couple factory stereos, extra set of Lexan T-Tops and replace some interior plastic that was cracked or damaged.

2nd Gen vs. 3rd's. The 78-81's command HUGE money IF they are t-top 4 speed cars. The earlier 78 had a lot more HP vs the 81. They did have some rare color combos and my ultimate is a Blue with Silver interior, t-top and 4 speed. That car could be in te $15 - 20K range. I truly think the 2nd gens have some issues that they are not there yet BUT people like the Trans Am better. Like someone said - 1gen Camaro is it, 2 Gen Trans Am have it, Third Gens I personally think IROC and 4th Gen I would go back to the T/A. Smokey ruined the huge value on the 2nd gen Camaros. They will come around but it will be a few years still. They sat too low in the rear and did rust out a lot in the quarters. People would rather put the $ into the T/A's but even those have not been defined as what is the best one to have. The 74-77's I think the birds have it hands down and that is what people are looking for now more than the Camaro's or Z28's.
The IROC value will surpass the 78-81 Z28's because IROC was so marketed and that "IROC Blue" made them stand out! People just remember them because that color!

Re: Trade this for your third gen

Dont understand your post. It sounds like you have a nice car.

As for your other post about values. It all goes on what people want. I'm a child of the late 80's and early 90's. My first car was a 79 Z28. I had a friend that his dad was a co-owner of a chevy dealership. I'd go down with him and stare at the Iroc's and then the 91-92 cars with the big spoiler. That is why I want one. I run into so many people that say "I had one of those in high school". The late second gen market is coming into its own. Of course the fully loaded out 4 speed cars and some t-top cars are the most desireable. Then comes the others and the real clean original unmolested cars come next. As far as I'm concerned my car is worth $10k. I'm sure others will disagree so I'm open to offers. The 89-90 Irocs I feel if clean, unmolested and reasonalbe miles should be 7500-8500, but I've seen very nice cars that are north. As far as the 91-92 cars which I'm after are worth to me clean unmolested should run between $6000-$12000.

Re: Trade this for your third gen

It is hard to sell any Camaro that is not a 1st Gen or a early 2nd. I've had several trade offers and a few cash offers. I'm not in a rush to get rid of it. Just looking for the right car. If I cant find a car in the next few months then I'll put in a 200r4, tweak the suspension a little and take it on the power tour. Been doing a lot of reading and a LS swap would be sweet in this car.

Re: Trade this for your third gen

I looked for years to find a great 78-81. In that time I bought my 82 Vette since it was all original. I kept up the search for a decent 2nd gen but nothing ever sparked my interest. Just like the 2nd gen's the third gens also have certain color interior pieces that you aren't goig to find in perfect condition. You can't buy a blue dash pad or other pieces in that color. They are a touch car to find in great shape. A lot of them have had quarters added and when you don't pay the big bucks to get them right the welds rust out. Even on some of the thrid gens, I have noticed inner fender wells rusting but have not seen anyone selling inner rears. I am happy with mine since there is not rust now and it is going to be garaged and not driven in bad weather.
As for 10K on yours, seems like a great car but for Craigslist it is going to take a while. I would think your car in that shape with what looks to be amazing, in the $7500 - $8k range when sold. Honestly, when you put so much work and time ito something "value" has other terms. In 3 years that car could be over you 10k easy. Once all the t-top, 4 spd cars are swooped up. You are right, they are coming around and were making a huge surge right before the economy tanked. I think you might regret selling or trading it but I do wish you luck and hope you find what you are searching for.

Re: Trade this for your third gen

I have what you are looking for but may require a little $$ from you.. Everything is negotiable though. My 1st car was a 78 Z28... Loved that car!! I am also a 2nd Gen fan as well as 3rd... this is one of mine i would "consider" trading. it's an 87 True IROC. 350/700R4 2800 stall... Plenty of pic's.. All receipts. PM for cell number... We'll talk if it strikes your interest.

Though I had 92. I think it was a flood car. So still looking. Straight up trades as I don't have cash or I would be in the car posted above. IROC's or Z's auto or manual no projects and not into the teal cars.
