I think some ppl on here might get surprised by SSAutochrome making that kinda power and still holding up. I really hope that those headers hold together well for you. Nice looking setup and good work.

Ya Ive heard some stories about the headers cracking or breaking too, but I'm lucky so far. Been driving it on and off for about 4 months now and I have gone through one set of gears, one mini spool, one torque arm and 2 U joints, but no problems with the mill whatsoever. besides the once in awhile popping off silicone connector lol.

nice car and great work, that much power under a unibody car could do some chassis damage hope you have sub frame connectors

Re: Newbie Here, 84 Twin Turbo Z28. PICS!!

I would love to buy one of those kits, but everyone seems to say they are crap. So I don't. I have since learned where there are some other cheap HD turbos that are supposed to hold up to anything. But then again my motor is 10:1, so I would need a whole new mill.

Maybe by the time you have logged a good amount of miles on her, I will be ready to rib my current mill appart (Nitrous motor)

No actually the carb hat wont fit under the stock hood. It sucks because I kinda wanted to keep the stock hood on the car. You can't really tell in the pictures but it does stick out a little bit.

Were they good to deal with and did the kit fit pretty much as described? Also you said that you have driven the car for four months, how much driving is that like once every couple of weeks, and how is it possible to keep your foot out of it?

They were great! Very quick shipping!! Definetly recommend them!! The kit is cheap I knew it wasnt the highest quality but I couldnt beat that price!! Thats driving around 30mi a week. It does good in stop and go traffic once I upgraded the cooling system, with the stock rad and waterpump it would get pretty hot quick. And The only way to keep that right foot from going through the floor was to set the rev limiter to 4000 and turn the boost down. lol With it set up like that I get about 170mi to a tank. A ten gal fuel cell.

That is a winner, have you had a chance to try the 110 and turn up the boost yet? I have been thinking about buying one of those ebay kits for a while now, I think you have almost convinced me.

Re: Newbie Here, 84 Twin Turbo Z28. PICS!!

pleasse keep up very updated.

People always say that the intercoolers are too small, or that the turbos will spin to pieces.

On top of that, they usually say that the headers are too weak and thin.

Please fill us in on just about everything you can, since for the average guy you wants to go boosted, researching for months and hunting down parts just doesn't seem worth it all the time.

Re: Newbie Here, 84 Twin Turbo Z28. PICS!!

Theres a guy over on theturboforums making 1000+ HP on a set of those headers. NOT the turbos but the same headers with modifield adapters for the turbos.

Doing some research latley since I have a few sets of the ebay stuff around. The quality on the headers is decent. They are prone to crank if vibrated alot because they dont purge the inside when welding the SS. and its all Roll formed 301 Stainless not 304 as advertised.

Take a magnet to the straight parts. It wont stick. Now take and run it over the radi of the bends. It will. Its a High carbon content Stainless. Either way as said A guy over on theturboforums.com is pushing upwards of 1000+ HP on a set of them with great results.

Your twin turbo setup is my dream come true. I have one concern about the routing of the intercooler piping. I'd love to see how you got around all the stuff that's in there.

Re: Newbie Here, 84 Twin Turbo Z28. PICS!!

SSAC stuff is fairly common with import guys (I happen to be one) and usually the only complaint is the welds on their manifolds. Most import guys either upgrade manifolds or just have them re-welded before they go on the car. I had an SSAC intercooler kit on my '95 Eclipse and never had any problems, and for $300 I was more than happy. The kits are cheap mainly due to the turbos, which are cheaply made Chinese units, instead of Japanese models. A friend of mine had their entire kit on his Mirage (same turbo motor as the Eclipse/Talon) and he had to have the manifold re-welded several times, and eventually got a new one from them and had it welded before use. I have read that support brackets have helped, although I haven't seen it with my own eyes.

I was wondering how these kits were doing...
