sub playing with no music?

i have a rockford power 451s amp (450x1) and a kicker L5 10" sub in a .9 cubic foot sealed enclosure in the back of my firebird. finished the install last week, amd after giving it around 10 hours of break in time, i can say it sounds pretty good for what it is, it pounds nicely.

but i notice when i have it on pause or something, i can hear a few thumps, and i go back there and feel the sub, and i feel it pumping a little bit, is it interference or something?

Double check your grounds. Also make sure your RCAs aren't grounding out somewhere and that the ends are in good condition and that the center pin isn't loose.

humm... I once had this guitar amp that picked up a christain radio station once. I was jaming then set the guitar down, one day it came in real clear and was like "PRAISE THE LORD!" I was like.. umm... ok lol

ok that was usless but true, I'm interested though, is it like, a beat or.. just thumps? Does it do this while the engine is not running? Something from the electronics of the car maybe mabye not *srugs* I wanna hear that weird stuff though. lol it might yell for you to praise the lord one day. lol.. things I'll never forget.

lmao

no praise the lord or any beats, just a thump, my ground is pretty nice, and ill check my wiring later on when i get a chance, but it happens with the engine on or off, once in a while, never constant it seems. its just like a thump, i thought it was me hearing things until i put my hand on the sub and felt the small pressure along with a small thump. ill check more when i have more time lol

I actually had a similar problem with my sub for my home theatre system. It appears that the amp part of the powered sub was staying on even after the stereo was off. This result in stray thumps and hums. It would make sure that the amp was shutting off/on properly.

check your RCA's make sure that they are not next to power wires, and if they are cheapo's that may be the problem. I just finished my install, and the RCA's going to my sub amp were cheap phoenix golds, and my sub would randomly thump between songs and when paused, changed the RCA's to some better ones and havnt had a problem, since!

this is probably one of two problems...EMI electromagnet interference from your rcas being too close to your power wire or another large wire in your car

or.

ground loop from bad grounds. Make sure all your grounds are tightened down, any paint or dirt is sanded off to the bare metal, and the metal you're grounding too will eventually meet up with the frame.

i had this problem with my very first install a few years ago, i spent months trying to figure it out and finally it was something inside my head unit that made a thumping sound. This is a very rare case but it might be your problem
