ok guys and gals, time to redo the system
Well its the winter and by next summer my car will be completley redone, engine, trans, rear, now hopefully the audio. Im selling my system to a friend to pick up some cash and looking into something new. Right now im runing 3x10" PolkGNX104's behind a Sony XM-DS1600P5 amp ( runs 900 wattsX1 @ 2ohms. ) This combo is really nice but just dosent do what i want it to.
Ive been looking into running two 12's. Ive had my eye on a set of AUDIOBAHN ALUM12Q subs:
120 oz. Double Stacked Strontium Magnets
Power Handling: 1000 watts R.M.S. 2000 watts Peak
Frequency Response: 18Hz 500Hz
Efficiency: 96.4dB
PHAT 1.75" EPDM Rubber Surround
Spun Aluminum Cone
3" 4-Layer ASV Voice Coil
Dual 6 Ohm
3 Ohm or 12 Ohm Operation
Now i wanted to know which amp will best suit running a pair of these. Is something like THIS going to be what i want? Would you sugjest something else? Help guy out. Calling all audio gurus.
Thanks

you really want audiobahn? Dude, you can do so much better. There's stuff that gets louder if that's your thing, and there's DEFINATELY stuff that sounds way, way better for less money.
Likewise with the amp, there is plenty of stuff out there that actually makes power instead of just chrome plating their crap.

i dont wanna go against a mod but if you compare the numbers of most manufacturers i think (just base on numbers) that audiobahn is pretty good.
as far as amping those subs... id go with that amp.

Heres a situation. If save up a little etxra cash i should be able to pick up two:
12" IMMORTAL Subwoofer, 2000w RMS, QUAD 2 ohm operation
12" Subwoofer
200 oz. Magnet Weight
2000 RMS Power Handling
23Hz - 700Hz Frequency Response
95dB Efficiency
3" QUAD 2 Ohms Voice Coil
8 5/8" Mounting Depth
10-7/8" Hole Cutout
...for about $450 which is really fine by me if they are the quality that they are supposed to be. Do you know anything about these? I do want the look, that is why ive been leaning towards audiobahn.

Audiobahn is over-rated, overpriced chrome plated chinese crap. They are made to look nice and pound hard, and that's it. They have big voice coils and big magnets, so they do get loud and handle a lot of power, but most of them sound terrible, and dollar for dollar, won't give you the most SPL or even come close to giving you the best sound quality available. Anything in the same price range from RE, Adire, or a hundred other companies is going to give you a higher quality product as long as you don't mind sacrificing some of the chrome.
Secondly, there's nothing wrong with disagreeing with a Mod.
Outlaw, what's your total budget, and do you want SPL, sound quality, or a good mix of both? Also, what kind of music do you listen to?

Well if there is something nice out there i want to know about it. Honestly, i listen to almost all rap, I would like to keep it under $1000 if possible. I would be leaning heavy on spl over sq, but i dont want to sacrifice so much sq that it sounds like crap.

Ok ive decided that im going with Resonant Engineering XXX 12". I dont know if i want to go double or single though. How many CuFt are available in the well of the car? I will want to run it ported for sure. I will need 2.1 CuFt per sub at 28 Hz. How exactly would i tune the box to 28 Hz?
Also, any amp sugestions for running a single? Dual?

The XXX will pound like a bastard. Make sure you have a LOT of power for it. You're going to have to look into some of the class D 1,200 watt or bigger amps, and stay away from the no name crap that advertises 2,000 watts for under $200.
To tune 2.1 cubes to 28hz, you need a 4" round port that's 17 1/4" long, or you need to build a slot port. A slot port might be tough in an oddly shaped thirdgen box, although not impossible by any means.
