Running power cable and signal cables
Hey guys,
Has anyone run a large power cable (1-2ga) AND signal cables (RCA's/speaker outs) on the same side of the car to the rear hatch and noticed any interference?
The reason I ask is that all my RCA's and speaker outs were run (years ago) on the passenger side of the car to the rear, and I'm relocating my battery to the rear passenger spare tire well now. I just ran the 1ga power wire from the battery in the spare well down the passenger side to the engine compartment and am wondering if if I should move the RCA's and speaker outs to the drivers side, but I believe the stock accessory power wiring is run there as well.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
- Joel

Typically power is run down the driver's side and rcas are run down the passenger’s side. I can't say why but that's the way it usually happens. I assume most manufacturers run their wiring like ours (accessories on the driver’s side).
Yes - the stock accessory wiring (brakes, hatch motor, etc) runs down the driver's side. There's a gormont type thing that runs the length of the door that houses the wires and it has enough extra room in it to fit a 2 gauge wire perfectly. Ask me how I know
Ideally you want to run your power down the driver’s side and the rcas down the passenger’s that way you won’t have any kind of interference. Since you already have the power wire run you might as well fire it up and see what happens. Worst case scenario is that you experience noise and have to re-route some wire. If you don't want to run new battery wire you can try running the rcas down the center of the car.

That was definitely what I was thinking. Thaks for the info. The battery is going in the spare tire well, and the cable I bought for relocating it wouldn't have been enough if I had to run it across to the drivers side, down to the front, through the firewall, and back over to the passenger side in the engine compartment to the dist. block for the starter etc. Hopefully I'll have the car started in the next couple months. I'll let you guys know how it works out.
Thanks,
- Joel
