Single 15" Sub

Anyone running a single 15" sub? I see 2 -10's And 2-12'S alot. I used to run a single 15" when I competed (GLUP) 10 years ago. It kicked *** and sounded better than most dual 12" setups. I have a convertible so I really want to boom so I can hear it, as well as everyone on the street
I was thinking of putting the sub on the passenger side and running my amp and cap and all the goodies on the drivers side of the trunk, sunk into the box with plexi on top and fans and vents of course.

i can't remember who, but there is someone here running a 15. i have thought about it many times, and still am considering it, but i think im going to do 2 sealed digital designs 3515's, or 2 stereo integrity magnum 15's.

with one, i think you could fit a ported box if you built it all the way up to you backseat or went fiberglass.

2 12's will still outdisplace one 15 though.

also, forget the cap, buy a good alternator, and upgrade your underhood ground and alternator power wiring.

I am currently running a single 15 in my 86 iroc. 15" Fosgate punch with a 360 watt insignia bridged to it. 2 Poineer 3 way 6x9 with 140 goin to them.
Problem is right now the box that it is in i had to cut down to fit in the back, now it sounds weak even with the 360 slamming it because of the popping at loud volumes. Building a trunk well box soon, when i finish it ill post it on here. I love the 15" hits lows my 12's never picked up, and still slams hard on the short notes. I dont think ill ever go back to 12's. I still need to put 6.5's in the kicker panels though and maybe some tweets up front.

why o why are you running a insignia amp??????? there are a lot of better amps that would work alot better. i work at best buy and that amp is the worst amp that we have. i mean if you are short on cash like me i understand but please tell me you are saving for a better amp. i have 2 alpine 10's with 300watts going to each of them and i would bet they sound just as loud or not as loud but a hell of alot cleaner sounding.

Well to be truthful, i got the amp for 15$ new. The sound is actually pretty decent, and for the cabin size of the car the wattage is enough. It hits hard enough now to make my eyes blurr when i turn it up, cant imagine when i get the box redone how it will do. So actually i am quite happy with the amp so far and its performance, I have a kicker to my 6x9's that i actually dont like and it cost me 200$. Go figure.

I have a vert and I am looking into building a sound system. At first I was thinking about ditching the back seats and building a box there. However, i would have to go with fiberglass since the wooden box would just be to heavy. Although if done right it might not be a problem.

Than I thought about going a single 15 or even a 12 with a good amp and building a box that would only take up half of the trunk. Storage space is minimal in the vert.

I am somewhat still leaning toward ditching the back seats and just covering the back seat with some stretchy black material with the screaming chicken logo on it.

Keep this thread going, the vert system are scarce and even searching for hours I can't find a single decent vert system set up on here. So lets figure this out once and for all.

Guys,

You need to qualify what you want to do. I used to judge and compete in IASCA for a number of years.

First...two 12" will have more bass than a single 15". A 15" is equal to 1.5 12" subs.

Second..do you want to hit hard or low? Yes there is a difference. 10" will hit hard but 12" will hit low. I would recommend that you stay away from 15" subs. You may find that they reverb too much and sound a little off when playing.

Third...If you want a little more oomph (technical term) you could put a mid bass 8" sub in place of the factory 6 x 9. Yes they will fit. Buy a premade box and put it in the frunk area and either put the amps under the box in the bottom of the trunk or put the amps on top of the gas tank behind the rear seats and the cover will hide the amps from prying eyes. Don't forget to keep the amps cool and run the best wiring you can.

I run a single 10" L7 Solobaric. It is a ported box with 1100 RMS being fed to it and you cannot sit in the car. The amp I use is a Memphis Belle 5 channel amp. I love this amp so much. 75 watts RMS to the Interfire 6x9's abd 75 watts to the Memphis 4x6's in the dash. THe 4x6's have the directional, adjustable tweeter. The 5th channel of the Memphis Belle is where the magic happens. It puts 1100 watts RMS into that Solo L7 10". The box is a ProBox SuperBass ported box. It goes low enough that I need to use the sub-sonic filter in the amp to protect the speaker. Ported is the way to go for low street sounds.

I'm running two 15's in a sealed box I built. They're Resonant Engineering subs off the internet. I've got a Lanzar Vibe 1200 mono channel amp pushing them. They're gettin around 750watts RMS. The thing will strait up pound, you don't wanna be sitting in the car when it's anywhere near cranked.

ooh, memphis belle! I had the memphis 1000W RMS single channel amp back in the day, always wanted to get the belle, but too $$$

I have a kicker solobaric S15L7, and a kicker 1200.1. I haven't had a chance to install it yet (still!). But I did use it in my previous car, Delta 88. No comparison since it was a trunk style car, but it worked great.

I was trying to fiberglass in a box for this sub, but it's a pita! There's no room for sub that big back there, you have to raise it above the rear well so far that.... Well, I haven't figured it out yet, that's why it's not done.

I'd recommend some 10s with DVC's and large excursion and high power handling. Something that'll take a ton of juice, that'll sound real nice.
