Factory 4th Gen. CD radio in 3rd. gen.

Ask this in an old thread but no answer so posted new. Did a search but no definitive answer.
I have aquired a 87 GTA with a gutted radio housing and want to install a factory radio with CD. Not looking for the Monsoon etc. Just a nice factory Pontiac unit that fits.
What do I need to look for in the way of a unit? What years fit? Just a four speaker set up keeping the factory look.

Car: 1982 Trans Am & 1982 Corvette
Engine: L-98 with LO-3 induction. 350 CFI
Transmission: 5 speed and vette has 700r4
Axle/Gears: 373's in T/A .. vette unknown
it will fit but you need the pigtails from the later model radio. also don't buy one unless they have the code to unlock it, GM charges around 65 bucks to unlock a theftlock equipped radio but I don't know if pontiac radios have that.

Thanks. Is there a particular year that would be better than another. Like I say just a simple hook up. No external amps etc.

Car: 1983 Z/28

I have a factory CD player from an 02 GTP in my 83 Z28. Somewhere I got the adapter pigtail that just plugs into the radio , then plugs into my cars harness. no cutting and splicing required. Also have a 89 firebird HVAC control in my Z28. The red lighting matches the CD player.

Car: 88 GTA
Engine: TPI 350

Measure the radio and the hole before you buy it. Firebirds have less depth room to install new radios. I do not think any DIM 1.5 CD Player will fit in a firebird. It was a pain to fit a 1 DIM CD Player with a flush mount into my 88 GTA. I vaguely recall looking around for more of a stock looking deck at first and found nothing that fit. If you want a stock look, I think it will need to be cassette.
