Speaker Installation Infor Needed

I purchased Polk 4x6 speakers to mount in dash. Per sizing chart, suspossed to fit. The magnet is about 1" larger than the original which doesn't allow the speakers to sit in low enough. It hits plastic, appears to be ductwork?
Has anyone experienced this and is there a workable solution to the install?
Thanks in advance

It's a common issue with plate speakers and only happens in birds (rocks are immune due to different HVAC vents). If you do a search you should find a good amount of posts on the subject.

I haven't encountered this problem personally (not running any speakers in the stock locations) but I have read about it and there are a few solutions. The most obvious solution is to modify the duct. This can be done one of two ways: heating it with a heat gun or hair dryer and then reforming it or notching (cutting) the duct and then re-sealing it with the lower clearance. Depending on how much space you have under your dash pad you could always make a spacer for the speaker.

Welcome to the forum BTW

Thank you for the input. I'll take another look at it. The car was a one owner that was garage kept and not driven the last 6 years. The car is in great shape except for the radio and speakers, yek!!!!

Cool, another Dave. There will never be enough of us in the world

If you don't want to do anything to the vents due to the car's condition (I'm assuming it's in great shape) then you might want to consider kick panels. If you do a search I'm sure you will find tons of info. I'm running a set and couldn't be happier.
