Help me prove someone wrong.
My friend seems to think that you could blow a rockford fosgate punch p3 by hooking it up to a house stereo. He says that if you hook any car audio speaker to a house audio amp, you could blow it VERY easily.
A speaker is a ******* speaker, the signal that the speaker recieves is 100% universal across platforms.
The punch p3 is a dual voice coil subwoofer, so IF ANYTHING, I would be damaging my HOME AMPLIFIER forcing it to run ohms its not designed to.
If im wrong, then let me know, otherwise help me out because ill be printing this for him to read.
Long story short: I bought a punch p3 for 130 dollars off of a friends friend, hooked it up to my house amp to see if it was blown, it was, hooked it up to my car amp, still blown, I know, dont flame me for it. You burn me once, shame on you, if you burn me twice, shame on me. My friend darren *who is the friend of the kid who sold me the speaker* says the kid is saying that the speaker wasnt blown when he sold it to me "obviously thats what he is going to say"
Im not too worried, 130 dollars isnt that much, plus I have a few things in mind anyways that im not going to mention on a freely readable forum.

I'm no expert but in my experience of years of audio (guitar, PA, bass, car, home audio) the speakers are all universal as far as physically working. Sounding good is another issue.

I once had a pair of MTX Blue Thunders (see who remembers those) hooked to my house stereo for about 2 yrs.
And I just recently removed a subwoofer I had in my Pontiac Vibe for a little more than 1 year that was from an old Bose Acoustimass 7 series.
The only way you'd blow one is (basically what you already said) if the impedence of the RF sub was too low for your home audio receiver to handle and the receiver started to clip.

The home amp didn't blow it. You would have to run massive distortion through it for a while to get it to spring a voice coil. If you hooked it directly up and it didn't make any sound, it was junk when you got it. Your "friends" are pulling a con job on you. As for 130 dollars not being much, isn't the principal of it worth much more than that? Go on any other audio forum on the internet and they'll tell you the same, a home stereo amplifier won't kill a car audio speaker unless driven ridiculously into distortion for a decent period of time. Tell your friends they suck.

you can safely run any car audio speaker in any home setup, as long as the impedence is correct, I have been running our 12's in my home Pioneer setupo, for about 7-8 years.

toss an old spark plug through his windshield, and or dump brake fluid on his hood. Those are my favorites.
But yea, I've also used a car audio sub in home theatre, worked fine.

if he wants to blow it just hook up some wires and put them into an electrical socket, that will fry it. I'm sure you would blow a channel on ur receiver if you hooked a decent car sub up to it.
