Makin Ur Ride Quiet Pics!!!
For more info on sound deadening....
http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/
For info on Second Skin Audio...
www.secondskinaudio.com
I ordered a pack of 80 sqf of Damplifier Pro...
Website says about it...
Noise Reduction Uses..
Whether you are looking to quiet down your street rod, or make your daily driver comfortable as a luxury car, Damplifier Pro is the strongest, most resilient vibration damper on the market.
Here is a Quick lesson:
The majority of reducible noise in any car is structure borne, meaning it comes from vibrations, like a wind chime. Unlike wind chimes however, our cars are not tuned to any specific musical frequency, so what we end up hearing is the road noise, engine rumble and exhaust drone.
Stopping the vibrations on your cars metal panels is much like stopping a noisy wind chime with your hand. Once the vibrations stop, the noise stops.
Traditional noise mats are mostly inefficient mass loaders; heavy & foul smelling tar boards that work by adding weight to the cars metal to quiet it down.
Damplifier Pro is not a mass loader. It is a constraint layer damper that converts the vibrational energy in to low level heat. This conversion of energy makes it 300% more efficient than mass loaders while weighing much less.
They do make a non Pro version, less thick & less money...
I spent 2 days over thanksgiving with my best friend doing this...
Day 2 began the rear pillars... just did a bit under the rear seat carpet and we ran out of material! 80 sqf gone!!
Yesterday, I worked on the rear outer wheel wells... took off wheels, cleaned all off, applied some Damplifier Pro, then used their Specturm over that...
Spectrum is a water based under coating designed to reduce sheet metal resonance and structure borne noise. It is a true visceolastic sound deadener that can make any vehicle quiet as a luxury car.
Sometimes my camera makes pictures blue, anyway, the wet specturm is dark gray out of the gallon, but dries black (picture still wet)...
I ordered another 80 sqf of Damplifier Pro, next time, the compartment floor, doors and a bit of the t top roof.
Raf
PS
Sneek peek of the dash I'm gettin for Christmas !?!?!?!?

NICE!!! you don't see too many people that put the time, money and effort into improveing the listening environment. Only people with a desire for sound quality seem do it. What kind of system are you plannin'?
Do you work at a stereo shop or do you do it as a hobby?

Re: Makin Ur Ride Quiet Pics!!!
Ironically, I'm legally blind and no license (and building a Knight Rider replica)
Insert joke here
I was part owner of a stereo shop many years ago... but do love music...
I never had a car, did plenty of work for other people's cars... never had a girl long enough to wanna put a system in their cars... I've always loved electronics and cars... so that's how Kitt happened...
I got 2 alpine amps, 90x4 for mids and highs an alpine mono sub amp 500w...
Just got a Pioneer color oel screen deck. The speakers are all mixed up... I got a set of MB Quarts for the front, I found a set of Boston Acoustics in the rear pillar (so until they die, I'll use them)...
& for the subs... back in the day, we built a box for 2 Cerwin Vega 8's. Ported of course... I was really impressed with the sound... so I have 4 gonna try and make em sound good... if it turns out good, great, if not, I'll probably use another driver...
+ car pc with gps, mp3's, 8.4 inch touch screen, dvd's, etc...

No jokes here...
Glad to see your not letting it get in your way of love for cars. I can understand where your coming, all too well actually.
What's your KITT got for a powertrain?

305 TPI & a T5. MAP, it's a 91.
I've put in a Pro 5.0 shifter, Hooker 2055's & Y pipe Jet Hot coated, Flowmaster 3" mandrel bent exhaust 1 in 1 out, Spohn Sub Frame connectors, Bilstein stuts and shocks, strut tower brace, wonder bar, new poly end links, bar bushings, trans mount and torque arm mount, LCA's & Panhard bar, Earle's Brake lines, air foil, throttle bypass, K&N filter, Optima Battery... 3.42 gears... & the nothcback helps it glide through the air quicker
It's fun for now... Hope to get an ATI Procharger, but that's way down the list... the sound deadening stuff was about $1000... the KR dash is almost $8k...
Taking donations

Sequential Turn Signals, like the tail lights in my avatar.
I thought you had ordered one from me in the first round of units.

Re: Makin Ur Ride Quiet Pics!!!
Wow nice to see someone else going with something serious in the sound damping area. With the rear wheel wells done I'd almost consider that as extreme as mine was, after 3 bulk packs of dynamat xtreme I had 2 layers on the firewall, and 1 layer front to back, top to bottom, just never got around to doing the doors.
Nice job

Re: Makin Ur Ride Quiet Pics!!!
Took today to do more work!
Took out the seats, seat belts (T-47) and carpet / jutte...
There were 4 spots that GM used some kinda orange adhesive (it's not rust) for the Jutte & escape hatches... I cleaned them up, heat gun, scarped excess adhesive off & used primer to cover up any scratches I may have done... floor looked nice, no rust!!!
A couple after pics...
Got some bit to do under the stereo / ac area... Since I got my dash Friday (Yahoo!) I'll be doing more work the dash / wiring, etc...

Re: Makin Ur Ride Quiet Pics!!!
Congrats on the no rust!
I can't decide if I want to do that or not, I'm really glad I did my truck, but I'm not sure I would be able to live with myself if I added all of that weight to my car Looks good though. Gonna do the doors? Maybe you can bring them from 100 lbs to 120

On a normal day I would flame you bad for turning a beautiful 3rd gen TA/Firebird into KITT...But you have a passion and love for what your are doing so I can respect that.
Looks like you are doing a great job so keep up the good work. I am realy interested in the sound deadening project turns out...how do you think that product is going to compare to Dynamat?
And I was also wondering what is up with putting it in the wheels? How are you going to cover it up and are you worried about it peeling off when driving down the road and running over a bump or through a mud puddle or something...age perhaps? I can see doing the inside but these are things that would raise a red flag when installing in the wheel wells and frame and what not.

Re: Makin Ur Ride Quiet Pics!!!
The rear wheel wells are metal and are inside the car, a big source for noise.
I did put a coating over the material on the outside, Spectrum / Sludge... that one purple pic, it's not purple in real life, it dries black (funny flash)... It's meant to go outside & the manufacture said doing what I did is fine with the product.
I got the pro version of the product (aluminum & butyl mats), I think (not 100% sure) is a tad thicker than Dynamat Extreme, & has a 500 degree temp range (much higher than the other products)...
I have done many nice things to the car & much of the work myself... I can't WAIT to hear the sound system... I have to buy some RCA's and the materials to build the box

Re: Makin Ur Ride Quiet Pics!!!
Reminds me of when I did my car! Take my advice and spend the most time and effort on the doors. I did my whole car, drove around for a couple months, then just did my driver door. I haven't even done my passenger yet. The difference was incredible. Make sure you do the inner part of the door skin too. My door opens and closes sounding like my mom's Honda, no joke. No more embarasing "did the china hutch just fall over?" noises when I slam my door, we all know how thirdgen doors typically sound opening and closing not to mention just driving around.

Re: Makin Ur Ride Quiet Pics!!!
i'm starting the same thing but with seal and peel (aka have to put an extra layer on) I'm finding i hard to remove the big panels over the tires and over the speakers. I can't figure out where all the bolts are and don't want to break my perfect interior pieces. have any suggestions?

Along the opening of the hatch sides...
There are clips... if you have one of thos "pry / clip" screw driver's, it helps... if not just be careful... take care of the plastic trim piece... the plastic clip can be replaced...

Re: Makin Ur Ride Quiet Pics!!!
I think dynamat is over priced and the Second Skin Audio has a higher temp rating (500 degrees)...
Are you saying my t top and doors aren't done, or yours???
I will be doing mine... If you want to volunteer some help, come on down!

God! You went all out on that thing. I did a majority of my interior at work with Dynamat(works great, pretty light) and does wonders. All the time when I install Dynamat people seemed SSOOOO surprised at the difference it makes.

Disappointed to hear that it took so much material to cover it all, but glad to know that it's working! I will be doing my entire interior eventually as well, and I suppose I'd rather order too much than not enough. I'm sure I'd find a way to use the rest of it!

Re: Makin Ur Ride Quiet Pics!!!
I was thinking about doing something like that. Just much less...
I think that just doing the rear (to the backseats) will take care of alot of noise, right?
