help please

i was wondering if someone could tell me how i would hook up 2 amps for my car? one for my high's and mid range speakers and the other for my 2 subs. Ive never done an audio system before but i sort of know how to do it with one amp,but i don't know how to do it with 2. any help would be appreciated.

Re: help please

Powering both amps with seperate power wires, both with at least a one farad capacitor for the power draw. Hook the sub amp as per instructions for subs, and use your multi channel amp for your speakers.

Re: help please

It isnt hard to wire, i would recommend a secondary battery, kinetic makes nice batteries designed for car audio. if i figure out how i made a wiring diagram in paint of how i did it with just about everything labeled. if anything is confusing just ask. hope this helps

Re: help please

it depends on what you have and what your power goals are. if you run anything over 1200 watts you need a zero gauge cable... otherwise 4 - nothing smaller then that. its better to have it and not use it all then to need more. buy a kit and save yourself the mess and head ache. i run about 5000 watts in my tahoe and push 2 15s the weigh 70lbs a piece. i used a zero gauge kicker kit. pdk1 i belive. google it. dont run 2 power wires. get a kit with a distribution block. it allows you to run zero gauge in to 2 four gauge wires ({). as far as a power cap... beef up your alternator and shop alot. look for name brands that are gonna really do the job. 2 farad power caps or 10 they are both in the same price range if you shop around. make sure your fuse is mounted atleast 18 inches or closer to the positive battery terminal and make sure its secured. also make sure all your cables are run atleast 12 inches apart. wires seem so minor but they are the foundation of your system so dont be skimp on em. **** gets expensive quick. last but not least map it out before hand. figure out how your gonna route them. hide them very well. your system can beat the block up but if you pop you hatch and it looks like a bowl of spaghetti its not cool anymore. search the forum and see how people have there stuff mounted. also check car domain - you have alot of options. less is more and make it clean. post what your working with. whatever it is third gens dont need much to get good volume. also keep in mind sound quality is everything volume isnt good if it sounds like ****. i kind of figured this was for bass - it all basically applys either way. good luck homie.

Re: help please

Make sure the wire you buy is good stuff, I use 4 gauge jl audio wire and the wire itself is thicker than the cheap 0 gauge kits sold around here I think I paid around 3.50 a foot but it was worth every penny i've learned you get what you pay for when it comes to car audio. Also, alpine has a new amp that goes like on the back of the alpine decks and wires in without an amp wiring kit or anything an it has 45rms x 4 I think and it's like $100

Re: help please

wow thank you for all the help, i guess i didn't explain it correctly but i was trying to ask how to wire the 2 amps together but i figured it out already, i need an electronic cross over to send the lows to the sub amp and the high pass to the speaker amp, so ive purchased this and im going to get a kit i found on ebay with a 4 guage to 2 8 guage power distributor block and all that good stuff, in about 1 to 2 week ill post finished pictures

Re: help please

Yes THE GAS TANK. Do not mount the amps directly to the floor, you will most likely puncture the tank. Two different methods work, take a 3/8" inch MDF board and insert it under the carpet and only use screws that won't go through it or carpet a board to match your interior and mount above existing carpet and screw the amps to that. again: do NOT put any screws through the floor sheet metal. (learned this the hard way) p.s. Paying someone else may be the more expensive route, but having to pay for someone's expertise is priceless, you will enjoy your system much more. plus someone to turn to if something does go wrong. just my two cents.
