If you are willing to drop $1300 on you car stereo I would suggest something more than 4x6 in the front. They simply cannot sound good. They also can't keep up with the rear 6x9 or subs. You options include kick panels or finding creative ways to mount bigger speakers in other locations. I managed to squeeze 6.5" component speakers in the dash where the 4x6's used to sit. It can be done easily with a shallow (< 2" deep) speaker. I then mounted the tweeter in the A-pillar. That setup sounds pretty good. If you just want a cheap setup then stick with 4x6 and 6x9. But if you are willing to spend $1300 you can do much better than 4x6's for the same price.

What do you want out of your system? What kind of music do you listen to? How much work are you willing to do?

If you want to stick with drop in 4x6 and 6x9 I would recommend Polk speakers. Polk, Infinity, JL, Alpine amps. Alpine, JL, Infinity, Image Dynamics, Memphis, subs. Alpine, Eclipse head unit. These are gross generalizations, once you pick out your general configuration we can go from there.

I got them for practically nothing from Circuit City. The polks were buy one get one, so I paid like $60 for all four. Plus they installed them for free.

Re: best speakers

so what i really want is to be ale to have hard bass for my death metal and nice highs for my bach winds. but i dont want it to be load for any1 else but the people in my car. moneys not a problem because ill save up how ever much i need to do it right. but in the back id like to keep my trunk a little bit because i need a place to store my t-tops. so if you where to build a system in the rs how would you do it? and i think ive seen the tweeter idea. how hard is it to mount the 6.5 in there?

Re: best speakers

For death metal I really think you will want something more than the 4x6's. You will have to use your judgment though, many people here will tell you 4x6's are the best thing they've ever heard.

Check out this thread for pics on mounting 6.5" under the dash and tweeters in the A-pillar.

Also take a look at kickpanels. They may be easier and sound better than the in-dash solution. You just have to decide if they are worth the inconveniences.

Make sure you keep doing some more resarch... look for good deals...your going to pay more at Best Buy...www.onlinecarstereo.com way cheaper...I would never buy from them but Car toys guy's have a little better knowledge than best buy...I have been in the Business for about 16 year's...and Rockford making there products in the USA again...and thats a plus....there quality went down in the late 90's when they moved some production to Japan....you think they would have been better...everyboby think Japan products are better than America

My best piece of advise. Never trust anyone that works for best buy. Honesly RF used to make some good stuff back in the day, but sold out like most other companies. Their stuff is fine but overpriced for what you get.

But don't believe me, go hear them for yourself at your local high-end (not best buy) stereo shop. Bring a selection of music on uncompressed CDs (no .mp3, IPOD ect) and try them all out, even the high end ones. Find one that you like. But be aware that all speakers will sound worse in your car than they do in the sound room. Try amps, subs, and headunits while you are there.

Re: best speakers

i agree with 87350iroc go listen for yourself. dont let other people spend your money. always check it out for yourself. if you have the money to spend get components and a nice midbass 8" on each side and have some bass in the rear. i like alpine recivers but the speakers dont do it for me with the exception of the type x. moral speakers are the ****. my homeboi spent around $500 on two 4" for his dash. diamond audio arent that bad either. boston pro series is good and its decently priced and focal has a third gen like cult following. stick with these brands and you cant go wrong. shop around use the internet. dont go to the local mom and pop shop because everything other then what they have will be crap. im lucky to have a really nice shop in my area that has everything and if they dont have it they will order it just so you can hear it. google those names and read what people say about them. i hold a florida state spl record and i have some of these names in my truck. i saw your in miami check out the south florida thread im trying to get some third gen owners to come to the track or some shows. good luck.

Re: best speakers

no disrespect to anybody here that buys speakers at best buy but when you say "best speakers" your not gonna be able to find them @ best buy. these speakers are high end products you can get at the corner store. call crystal clear audio in homestead (about 30 min from miami) or a high end retailer. boston is sold more commonly and you can pick up some nice speakers for close to $300. like i said shop around. use google. make some calls if everyone you ask says the same thing you can pretty much take it to the bank. quality cost.

Re: best speakers

dont buy speakers at bestbuy first of all....go to an audio shop...rockford fosgate (IMO) is the best subwoofers...not too sure about the speakers but i would imagine they would be good...

Re: best speakers

IMO there is no such thing a s the best speakers...there are too many factors that make a speaker sound good or not.Speaker location, size, specs etc etc come into play..including the quality of how it was installed will make the end result.

I always ask whats your budget for each component your willing to spend..then i can tell you whats the best I can give you in that range and then my opinions of what work better for your application. Its not as simple as just picking a speaker and throwing it in your car and it sounds amazing.

Alot of speakers will give you the sounds your going for..if tuned right and thought out properly. In my own car I wen through stages of finding what I liked best for me.First I stuck with the 4x6 and 6x9 setups and had some pretty good results. Then i wanted more balanced front stage and made my own kick panel enclosure with alpine type r 6.5 and alpine type r 6x9s and a single cerwin vega ten in the spare tire compartment in a custom box.Yielded me a very clean sounding system with very good midrange bass after tuning the deck and amps.

Ive been in the car audio scene for a long time aswell..many professional high end shops wont say there is a "best speaker" or you would be spending a couple grand on just front speakers lol.I dont know about bestbuys in the US but here in canada alot of the installer seniors were once high end car audio shop owners such as myself. If you been around long enough then you will know how to make a car sound alot better than others who spent 5x the amount research research research.Lots of us on here have killer easy to do setups that dont cost 1300 and pounddd while being clear uptop with the ttops off lol
