Whining Noise in Stereo - Really Odd
I ran a search on the boards and found a couple threads on this but nothing with closure if anything worked.
I have a JVC AVX-1 DVD headunit and a simple MTX 4 channel and MTX 2 channel amp with Polk momo spaekers all the way around and a 10" Alpine type S sub.
This noise recently has become louder even at lower volumes than before. This issue has been going on now for so long I cant remember.
If I turn the deck completly off, the noise is insanely loud. if I turn the volume on the deck down to 0 it goes away almost completly. If I am listening to a CD or the radio, I have to blast it to overcome the annoying sound.
Anyone else ever hear of this before?
I just picked up a Audiovox "Rampage" Anttenae Filter and Niose Filter to see of that would fix it, but I tend to beleive the issue should be able to be fixed a different way and the right way.
I will post a follow up if these filters worked, but please let me know if this has ever happened to you, or if you know what the real issue might be.
Thanks!

I also forgot to mention the noise does go up and down with the RPM's of the car if this helps...

2...same goes for you speaker wire
3...bad ground somewhere..rca input/output, amp, stereo head unit!
...just check and try again!
power cord on one side of your car....EVERY other wire on the other side! :-)

Re: Whining Noise in Stereo - Really Odd
It is most likely one of 2 things eather way it is a very cheep fix!!!!! and not to tough to fix eather.
the wine from RPMS is ur amp picking up noise from your cars electrical SYSTEM this can be from one of 2 things typically
eather the noise is coming in from the RCA cables or from a bad ground wire(the wire isnt grounding correctly) the wire may be fine just the location may be bad or simply a rusty connection ect
my experance the RCA cables are the most common way noise gets into the system.
for RCA trouble shooting thers a few cheep ez ways to check it I bought a cable from wall mart ya wall mart (the cable costed less then $4)
The cable went from my ipod and turnd into a RCA type i simply started the car and pluged the ipod into the RCA inputs for the amp via this cable(dosnt nessarly have to be an ipod it can be anything with a head phones jack cd player tape ect....
http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2
above is an example of one u defently dont have to buy it off here but i figure the picture helps!!!!
at this point if the wine stops ITS ur RCA cables!!!!
if this fixes the noise while being plugged into the ipod
ur RCA cables are picking up the noise this may be because they are running to close to power cables maybe the cars original wiring or the big cable ur running back there to ur amp? the way to fix this is run ur RCA cable away from power cables in ur car or maybe buy a more expensive set that is insulated beter
if this dose not fix ur problem check ur ground wire on my amplifer and make sure its tight at the amp and then check the other end and make sure its not heavily crorded if it is make it shiny again.... eather way injoy if u still have problems i can help but between these 2 things itll fix ur problem 99.99% of the time!

Re: Whining Noise in Stereo - Really Odd
Thanks Acadburn. I am going to do some t-shooting this week. Some of what you suggested, and I might also just lay a new RCA over the seats and see if a new cable and or the location of that cable helps. I did install the antennae and noise filter and it actually did seem to bring it down a little, but its still there. Thanks for the sugestions and I will report back again when I have an udpate.

Re: Whining Noise in Stereo - Really Odd
i dont know if you've upgraded your underhood charging wiring, the "big 3," but if so, noise can also be introduced by bad grounds at the alternator, engine, or battery to chassis points.
my stock head unit harness developed a grounding issue over time and i fixed it by manually grounding the HU rather than using the ground in the harness.

Iv fixed this problem twice once on harley with a stereo and once on my camaro all you need is a rfa noise filter heres once http://www.jegs.com/i/MSD-Ignition/1...oductId=747781
But im sure you could find one at nappa or any car stereo store

Re: Whining Noise in Stereo - Really Odd
you should maybe check the component in the distributor.
This is a built in noise suppression component...the name eludes me right now.
Maybe need a stronger one or it could just be naff.
You'll find it next to the ignition module IIRC.
I remember old points systems when this was the issue.
I suggest this because the noise rises and falls with RPM.
Hope this is of help.
But I could of course be wrong.
The other suggestions make perfect sense too.

noise filters are band aids, not fixes.

Re: Whining Noise in Stereo - Really Odd
most common cause if this problem i see is your rcas and power wires ran down the same side of the car, they need to be separated. you well get engine noise bleeding over, ive had it really bad in a few cars ive owned.
